Any Webtoon peeps tried the new thumbnail type yet?

One of my comic thumbs would probably look better with a longer image, but I'd like to see how it looks first. But so far none of the comics I've randomly clicked on have it, as far as I can tell...

I was considering putting one of my comics up there as a mirror, but I could not for the life of me get the file size condensed to the limitations. I'd be interested to see some comics with the new thumbnail types too.

Have you tried croppy? Might be worth seeing what it spits out. In general I think webtoon is a little friendlier towards scrolling comics. https://knicknic.github.io/croppy/

I have both the old and the new one up. I just extended my Tapas cover to the dimensions needed for it and removed the text. (I recommend people to at least update the old, square thumbnail, since there are new dimensions on it and your current thumbnail might look squished or blurry)

I think the reason why no comics have the new thumbnail type is because Webtoons hasn't rolled out whatever plan they have that requires it. I suppose they're giving creators the heads up to update their thumbnails to do so before they change anything. This is what it says on the announcement page:

I tried to make an image fit the size dimensions, and I could not for the life of me figure it out. I had to have my husband (who's an IT guy, and used to do phone support for Adobe programs for like a decade) do it, and it took HIM a while to figure it out. I've only replaced the square thumbnail thus far, I haven't tried doing the long one yet.

I made one for the new size and redid my old thumbnail, too. It's nice that we've got the option, but 700K and 500K limits for size? Really?! It was a pain in the butt to get the sizes down. I used Photoshop and was able to make it work using a compression rate of 10, I think.

The larger thumbnail is not being used currently, but I can see them using it as a way to feature Canvas series at the top of their Canvas page. They might be switching over to the larger size in general for series, who knows? Unfortunately, they haven't said one way another.

Personally for me, I think my new thumbnail looks much clearer and detailed with the new size and stands out a bit better than the old one.

@Scarlet_Cryptid - Yeah, it seemed like an unusually difficult process. But I'm glad that your husband was able to figure it out!

@Yulek - Thank you for looking into this, haha! I'll give it a shot. The file size limitations are itty-bitty, so hopefully they can be compressed enough to fit. (I tried making a brand new series and was prompted to use the new thumbnail sizes, otherwise I would have definitely just stuck with the old.)

I haven't tried it myself, and I for one don't even know what exactly it is?? Is it a longer thumbnail?
Either way, I've been meaning to draw a new cover thing for Tapas, so I'll probably do that and see if I can reuse it for Webtoons new thumbnail thing.

I did it for my main webcomic and eventually, I will do it for Cupcake War Machine, but right now, I want to finish my main project so it can be done and over with.

I did it, mostly because I am reuploading old stuff and while doing it I updated my thumbnails. I don’t see any difference with how my series appears among other series atm tho. So like others have said, probs that they plan with it hasn’t started yet.

Already changed them . But it's for the Recommended section anyway... my comics aren't big/popular enough to be recommended or anything soooo, doubt it's gonna do anything differently for me

I updated mine! It was designed as a book cover in the first place, so it looks far nicer as a tall image.

I'm looking forward to seeing whatever redesigned components they intend to use them on. Even the dimensions for the square thumbnails got a lot larger.

Yes it was pretty simple since I use photoshop anyway. Reducing the file size wasn’t an issue for me.

I had a new thumbnail drawn for Tapas, and decided that just by adding to it, it would make a nice cover as well. I didn't get to it until Webtoon made this announcement which finally made me get off my butt. I will say that WT dimensions are just a little too tall which makes the image look a little awkward. I think the Tapas cover looks better.
