Hello, everyone. I'm Wocalich. I have started preparing for a story with a character who has been learning Modern Dance since her childhood. I guess I'm looking for someone to fact-check what I'm planning for this character.
Also, she will have Albinism which means she will have poor vision and frail skin. Anything else about Albinism I should know? Would it get in her way in her future career in Performing Arts?

I danced ballet since I was 7 to 9, then we moved so I had to switch dance clubs and ended up being in one for around 6-7 years which focused on pretty much all kinds of dances, hip hop, pop, lock in, disco, slow dancing, etc... I have experience in competitions, concerts, shows from all kinds and have won my fair share of trophies too... Not to mention travelled abroad multiple times for all kinds of competitions and met MANY diverse dancers myself. Hopefully I can be of help in that regard. I do not know much about albinism though.

I would love to ask you some questions then. I will reach out to you once I organize the questions if that's alright.

There was an albino in my class in school when I was around eight or so. Most of what I remember was that he had poor vision, like he once walked into the school pond because with light reflecting on the water, it looked the same as the concrete around it. He generally wore sunglasses, and he also had this special screen thing for reading, which increased the contrast between the page and the text and removed the issue of light reflecting off the paper.

The other issue is of course sunburn. I'm a blue-eyed ginger myself, so I can easily sunburn in about 30 minutes of uncovered exposure on a bright day, I pretty much have to always wear a hat and long-sleeves in summer and/or high protection sunscreen, but this kid had it even worse than that. It wasn't too bad because we were in Cumbria, a part of the UK where it literally rains more than 50% of the year, but depending on where the person lives, they'd possibly need to think carefully about sun exposure.

Thank you for the answer. Looks like I have some things to consider.

Other than having no color in the: skin, hair and eyes.

There is an increased risk of skin cancer and the person would be sensitive to the sun

There is a variation where the skin does of color, but is still lighter because only some melanin is produced

Patches of skin can have no color instead of the whole body, but the latter can still happen

I guess this means sunglasses, most effective sun screen whenever she goes outside and the device darthmongoose mentioned for school work.

My childhood friend's mom had vitiligo, and I remember she was extremely pale and wore sunglasses, and I believe she sunburned easily. She was pale skinned as it was, but also had white patches all over. I also had a classmate who had vitiligo but only in his hair and I think like a couple coin-sized spots on his skin, so it didn't affect him much. I mean, aside from bullying because kids find the dumbest things to bully over. Aside from that, I know no humans with pigment disorders.

I did, however, do ballet, jazz, and tap as a small one so I may be able to fish up some memories if they help. But I've always been more into belly dancing ^w^"
