Just curious really. I've made a character for one of the prequels I'm working on and my friend chose her colours. I initially coloured the clothing. My friend send me back a version with altered clothing colours which I feel are waaaaayyyy too dark now.

This is my colour choice

And this is my friends

I know ultimately it's up to me however I'd just like a few more opinions

My issue with the 2nd one is the colors are too dark on the pants and shirt. It all just blends into the body of the dog which creates a strange silhouette. Tho removing the midriff could also fix that.

I think it's easier to see what is going on in the first one tho there shirt and belly are blending a bit. I would prefer that one with the belt color on the 2nd.

Always go a little lighter than you want that way you can add shadows. Black can't go blacker to show shadows and the lower colors seem too dark for you to shadow anything. Even if your style doesn't normally have shadows, it leaves the door open incase you do want that one panel with an extreme light source to be able to show how bright it is.

It´s your comic and it´s your decision.

Both are versions are way too dark for me, it´s not a good
color choice. My advice is to look at group pictures of comic characters
and observe which colors they chose + (in case you want to stick to
the black shirt option) look at comic noir characters with
black clothes and observe how they solve the problem of showing folds
and shapes

This is all great advice! Thank you!

The character is still in concept stage anyway so this feedback is super helpful. I might lighten up her body colours a smidge too and add a slightly more red hue to them. (For some reason my friend always adds a purple hue to everything which imo looks odd lol)
