I think it feels very cluttered and lacks a central focus, so the eyes don't really know where to go or what's important.

I'd take all the characters and put them into a group in the middle of the page with the yellow text at the top, maybe the brown text at the bottom. There's just too much, though. The brown text is also really hard to read.

Also, you really don't want your text to be nearly the same color as the background. You want it to pop.

Background color is better but it's not attractive to a random person.

I have not read your story so maybe only your public knows what your cover is about. But for now ... I can't say it catches my eye/attention.

Another thing is you aren't directing the viewers attention anywhere in the drawing/painting.
The first thing you see is nothing.

Take this painting for example:

It is pretty famous since all elements and lightning/shadows are pointing at jesus so the first thing you see is well.... jesus.

Notice how everyone on the right is looking/pointing to the middle and everyone on the left is doing the same.

Also the light is comming from behind jesus. That basically makes you instantly notice him. On your cover your tittle is a dark color but your background doesn't make it shine. So basically you see everything at the same time.

Your characters are the same size with no set positions since no one is doing anything special the viewer can easily overlook your cover.

In the case of the Last Supper painting, there is a subject that's intended to be the center of attention, so it's easier to compose with the intention of directing to viewer's attention to it.

However, my cover isn't really meant to make a single character the primary focus but depict the supporting cast in the form of parodic merchandise. The appeal is supposed to come mostly from the humor.

In that case you might want to make the tittle shine more.

You probably need a lighter background the one you have now is hard on the eyes for a whitescreen computer. Especially with some of your characters having strong colors.

Maybe a light beige color or a light yellowish color.
You might also want to add some lights on the title to make it shine. Like a shiny turd or something lol. You basically want to make it stand out.

What you could do is have something like a display basket that you often see in stores, holding all the characters (they kinda look like keychains) in it. Maybe with some silly price sticker on the basket or one of those "buy 1 get 1 free" stickers.

Or basically just something that pulls the image together while keeping the theme you want. But the cover really needs structure, and without it you're going to have a whole lot of people skip right over your work because of the cover alone.

Fair enough. Color wise it is much friendlier on the eyes. The "Turd's a Charm" does stand out. It looks like a nice simple cover. I may be biased or in a good mood but I think that cover is growing on me :no_mouth::fog:️.

I would still suggest you experiment using @candiedcotton's idea of the basket or something similar and see which version of the cover YOU like best. Not us.
You never know if you will like a certain idea until you see a prototype.
