My Family does know that I draw webcomics. But I also didn’t tell them at first, because my family wasn’t really supportive before .
But nothing compared to your family.
When they burned your comic before I wouldn’t tell them either.
Maybe you can speak more often with then about comics and so to be able to assess their reaction.
Most of family knows. Some are supportive, some don't care. Some keep forgetting so it's a surprised when they hear. The ones that do know expect me to make enough money to earn a living off of it, but that's not likely to ever happen as it's such a low paying job for me.
They didn't destroy my things that I created though, at least my parents wouldn't, my aunts and uncles though would get very destructive of any crafts I did at their places when I was a kid and did crafts with theirs, which are not as personal as drawings and writings, but it still really hurt to see something created ripped apart or thrown out because I wouldn't eat my lunch. My parents though are artists (just in music, not drawing) so they understand just how taboo it is to destroy something that was created so I never really had to deal with that at home. I can't imagine the pain you went through to have that destroyed, heck even stories I see online of kids who parents deleted their minecraft worlds are horrifying. It's just heartless.
My entire family knew, most of them are advising me that it is waste of time while others just ignored it. But when I get a job as a graphic designer, they mostly gave up on trying to prevent me from doing my comic and the rest still ignored for the most part.
If you want to know my comic, it's called Mukhtar, a medieval fantasy comic with middle eastern influence, mythology, and more. If you're not interested in world building, and lore of the nine factions of Araby, you can skip from episode 5 to 40 and focus on episode 41 which is the continuing story of page 4:
My family knows that I'm making a webcomic; they just don't read it XD. They seem okay with it though. My webcomic is relatively lighthearted and they saw me worked on an episode every now and then. They just said to not forget about my studies and they are fine with what I do as long as it's nothing too intense.
No one in my family knows that I'm making a web comic. They know that I like drawing stuff and that I'm pretty much drawing everyday, but not about what I'm doing online. They're very supportive of me, so it won't be a big deal when they find out. I'll tell them eventually, but not anytime soon. I'm willing to bet that they'd be impressed with all that I've done outside of their knowledge. Though, I'm pretty much the only artist in my whole family, so I'm sure they'll be happy with whatever I end up doing as long as I'm happy, which I very much am! (And as long as I finish school too)
My parents know I draw comics. My mum knows I'm making one. I don't know if they read it. My dad is usually supportive of my drawing stuff since he wants me to do drawing for a living however he more so wants me to do things like draw cars or idk, car decal for mechanics since mostly my town I live is in mine workers and/or mechanics and not much going on in terms of the arts.
My mum has told me some kids want to read some comics and send some my way to read it but it's very often. That or she shows me off to family to say "I'm the famous son who draws" because my sibilants are in jail, on drugs or doing something normally illegal and that I haven't done any of that. Sooo yeah.. ^^'
@teacup_creations yes, people always thought us holed up in the room, taking a nap or being a lazy person but we are actually catching our dream. And that's kind of sad.
@magnavarra wow you made a song? I guess you have different kind of talents in yourself
@summermcallen thanks for the advice! I tried to give hints to my brother first instead of my mom because she is a bit emotional. She's the one who burned that comic after all
@Kura yeah it is really painful. I cried begging like "don't burn it! " but they ignore it and said "it just a comic, why do you need to cry?". After that happened, I have been really careful at hiding my drawing
@faisalhussein394 you must have been gone through for that, I hope people will treat you better. Pstt: I subscribed your comic!
@AmandaJ-art what a nice family. I wish mine was supportive like yours <3
@Kajaysee Yeah, as long as you're happy! That's the goal in life!
@Adriano that's absolutely beautiful! No wonder they
are interested!
@Zak take care of yourself, just be happy on what you do. I believe you will be a successful person someday
@DualDragons your brother is so nice, I only can ask my proofreader to be my editor since she's the only person I can talk to in real life
I feel bad about your comic being burned, I hope you'll reach a point when you can handle doing your comics without any fear of someone might found out about them.. it's sad to hear. I never shared my work with my family, I used to ask them to read my short stories when I got them published online long time ago, but I Notice they're so judgy! like "you shouldn't write that" or "talk about that," so when I start making comics, I wanted to keep'em only to myself and people who's will read online.
My family does know I make comics however I don’t let them read it because my parents are super harsh and might not be happy with how rude or gay some of the characters are. I think they think my comics are something inoffensive like Mutts. I don’t want to tell my siblings because they will just tell my parents.
I’m fine showing my stuff to strangers because I don’t have to deal with them IRL.
My mom knows of my comic, but doesn’t know it’s online and posted on the internet. Same for some of my other stories. She just thinks it’s me drawing because why not. On the other hand, my dad doesn’t. Funny since he’s more supportive of my art and writing then my mom is. Feel bad for not telling him about my webcomic. More of my friends know of my story than them.
