My parents have always been supportive of me pursuing art, but they don't really know how to show genuine interest so I tend not to share anything unless they ask. Usually when they see my art, they say, "Oh... that's nice," or, "Oh, interesting." It's not that they don't like it, it's just that they aren't good at processing and analyzing it and starting a conversation about it. I've learned to accept it, but it is always super frustrating that they never try. (Example: I showed my mom some hand studies I did and she said the hands looked arthritic... and I told her they were my hands. Then we talked about arthritis instead of my art.)
My dad has shared my art with a bunch of people and is obviously proud of me, it's just difficult for my family to share that kind of appreciation with each other for some reason. Sometimes I think I grew up with a bunch of robots.
They know I have a webcomic and they've seen my boyfriend share it on Facebook, but they've never really brought it up or told me they've read it. If they ask, I'll share, but I've learned over the years that I'm better off not showing them anything I'm super excited about.
