I've been thinking about it today, and I know some creators get bummed that nobody comments on their episodes, but I kind of wonder how effective the comments section really is on Tapas. You can't really make any image replies or do anything particularly interesting, so it usually just comes down to people saying simple words of encouragement. Which is fine! But I wanna randomly drop fanart of your characters if I'm enjoying your comic! Maybe if you're really high up there people will speculate on your future episodes.

But honestly? It doesn't feel very genuine to me. I don't really ever feel the need to leave a comment on episodes in Tapas and I don't usually read the comments sections--Which is something I often do on many platforms. For example, on Comicfury, comments sections are actually very active--its a great way for creators to interact and, in doing so, provide really easy promotion for their comics because their clickable avatars are right there.

I don't think you should feel bad or anything if your entire comic received no comments on Tapas. Until it feels like a more engaging and meaningful interaction between community members (I mean, the forums are!) I honestly don't even see a reason for it to exist.

People only comment when they feel like it...... my personal life hack to get comments is simply work in the pacing of my comic to always give readers something to talk about.

Personally i only comment when i have something to say, otherwise it doesn't feel comfortable or natural.

Posting images in the comment section would definitely be cool! Seeing fanart and memes would be be dope.

I get what you mean, still, it's nice to have comments to later reply to them back in a friendly manner and it is encouraging and it helps to speed up and make more pages.

Right now, nearly half of the commenters are gone and I'm starting to miss them. Hope they're alright.

I am surprised at how you get active comments from Comicfury, I never manage to get that so congratz.

Wellllllll none of my comics have an active comment section but that's because I've been hosting it there for less than a month. I've been commenting on other comics n stuff (because I want to) and it clearly has helped my numbers. I'm sure if you leave a comment on every comic on Tapas your numbers would look better too, but specifically OC memes and fanart will immediately draw attention to your art style. Us small guys need to get our wins when we can, and Tapas/Webtoon's corporate push for comics is really hurting the rest of us.

If a person is still commenting on my 33th episode then I don't see how it can be forced. Like if you made it that far and still comment then that must mean the person loves my comic.

@Zay That sounds cool, but I can see that backfiring horribly lmao.

To those wanting images in the comment section, you also need to anticipate if those spam bots soliciting porn now posting images

I really don't want people to post images in the comments. I feel like it will just turn into people posting weird memes. If you want to send a creator fanart, do it through social media.

I 100% do not want people to post images in my comments section. People have sent me fanart just fine via social media, discords and these forums. I feature fanart in end of chapter extras with links to people's stuff, and it gets them subscribers better than if their work was shoved down in the comments somewhere, because it's in the actual pages of the comic. I believe last time I did a fanart feature, most of the featured creators got about 10+ subs out of it, so I'm pretty happy with this approach.

People being able to post copyrighted images onto my pages, or stuff that might not be appropriate to the rating of the comic, or posting adverts for their own stuff to take advantage of my larger audience sounds like an absolute nightmare to me. Especially being in a european timezone, it could take hours for me to delete it if somebody posted nudes in my comments at a time when I'm asleep. It'd be a pain to deal with, and it'd definitely get used to target popular creators to harrass them or try to get them delisted or something.

Comments sections are a bit sparse when you're starting out, it's true, and a lot of the comments if you don't seem to have any will be things like "oh wow, I just discovered this! I hope you keep going!" or "Why does this have so few readers!?" etc. But it doesn't stay like that. If you keep posting, building your audience and providing episodes with enough content in terms of funny jokes and exciting or dramatic moments, people will start commenting on those. If you're struggling to get interesting comments, it's usually a sign that either your content is too short or not enough happens in your episodes to comment on, or just that you're not making the kind of comic it's easy to comment more than just "lol!" about, which is why a lot of gag comics do better on social media than on a platform like Tapas where the most popular content is more story-focused.

People tend to forget YouTube used to allow images in the comment section.

It was a horrible idea cus it increased hosting cost, a legal nightmare in terms of copyright, people would spam just to harass people with gore and unwanted sexual imagery, spam to slow shit down and dear god imagine that feature during a bot raid. The website would be down for a long time

I think the idea sound good if you dont think of the practically and dont realize just how shitty people are or how expensive hosting is. Honestly hell no

A part of me would love to be able to have picture comments, but I get why it would be a trainwreck. I remember this sight called Tegaki-e where you could draw comments and I FREAKING LOVE responding to other artists with little drawings and written comments, but yeah...

For the comments section, I don't think it feels forced, It just seems like a regular comments section to me.

For those who wants image, why don't we just have stickers in the comment section
Like Tapamon emoji
Or maybe those emoji likes reaction so that we can see what audience think about the chapter

Though I know it would probably meant people spamming stickers.
