Have you ever Q and A?

Hello forums! \ovo/
As the title says have you ever had an event like Q&A but in a form of a video? I know a lot of artist just add episodes answering questions as their avatars or characters, but I want to go with different media. I think making a video helps to create a better connection because you actually see a real person behind the screen.
Any tips? Should I do it? Any reason why should I not? I mean youtube can be pretty brutal place xD

I think video can be a good thing. Breaking the wall and showing people your face helps bridge a connection between you and them. And having that connection with your reader is what we're all trying to achieve, so I say give it a go. No harm in trying.
If you're worried about youtube, you can always have the comments turned off, or have the video hidden from regular youtube visitors and directly post it onto your site. That doesn't mean it's private, though! People could take the link to your video that they find on your site and share that around like they would a normal Youtube video. But it is a little more private from the rest of the world that is probably more interested in cat videos.

Yea I was thinking about it, but then newcomers who will want to visit my youtube channel won't really see those QnA videos.

Well, then post everything publicly and see what happens. You can always change the settings around after you see how people interact with it and you have a better feel on how you want to use it based on what you experienced and learned.

I think the mystique of not knowing what the author looks like and such is pretty neat.
But that's irrelevant!

Only things as far as tips that come to mind...
Edit. If there's points were you spend a lot of time thinking or mincing words, cut that footage out. So it's snappy.
Aaaand make sure the background is nice. Maybe a poster of your series? Haha

It is indeed, but I would want to end up at cons, so people would find out anyway
Plus I think it's a nice experience to gain more confidence, many youtubers did that (tho I'm not really aiming to be one and I don't really want to).

And sassy!

That's what I thought too I like playing with montage, it's pretty fun. There's not much of it in my speedarts, but let's be honest how advanced a speedart video can be?

I would love to do a Q&A in the future, but the idea of filming a video of myself freaks me out. So I'd rather do it as comic episodes or tumblr posts -sigh-.

That being said... I do enjoy watching Q&A vids, so if you've got the guts to do it, definitely go ahead. I haven't got much tips, but I've seen a couple of Q&A vids of webcomic artists on Youtube, and the comments don't seem to appear brutal to me. Most of the commenters are either fellow webcomic artists and fans.

It may sound weird but I know exactly how you feel When I think about recording myself I'm worried about a lot of things like: is it stupid to talk to the camera in empty room? I mean it's a bit embarrasing for someone who does it for the first time or is my accent good, am I prounancing words right? (because english is not my primary language) Is what I'm taking makes sense? Are funny things for me will be funny for the audience as well? And many many others! But like I said I think video is building better connection and I'm a bit lazy to draw Q&A when I draw EVERYTHING, like patreon wallpapers, announcements, my series, promotional materials, drawing, drawing, drawing, that's why I thought to try something different instead of straining my hands again ^^;

I think it's a good idea. But I'd also make a text version for those of your readers who are not fluent in English.

I'm actually (once I hit the mark of 150 total) going to host a live Q&A art livestream. The most interesting questions will be put into art, while some will be answered by my friend Soul. I have to experiment with how it works first though...

it depends to be honest i would probably do it if I had good enough equipment with audio that won't sound static or poor and if it did not look like it was filmed with a potato. If you can't output something that will be decent enough on an audio video level I would probably stick with something forum, twitter based

Maybe when people care enough about me hahaha aheehehe... hehe he.. gross sobs

I wouldn't even dare to film something with poor quality because people would instantly start hate comments and I'm too much of a perfectionist.

@AffectedMind That's actually an interesting idea - almost like a panel at a convention or something! It is nice to get to put an actual face to a specific creator you follow, and I believe it would help to create a more personal connection with your audience.
Personally, if I ever did something like that my biggest fear would be that viewers would get tired of just looking at my face (while in a comic I can add in characters and scenery, and make it more interesting).
I'd say go for it, though. It would definitely be something new and different, and it would make you stand out!

I haven't done a Q&A yet, still building an audience that will interact with me through comments - this is a hard thing all by itself. Do a video Q&A though, it doesn't burn up as much effort as one off drawings for this. Use your time wisely, it is not a renewable resource.

I think a video would be interesting. I've only done episode Q&As, but I would love to try a livestream while possibly showing my face haha. It's great personal touch to be able to put a face to the name eventually. :] I'm not sure how I would go about it on youtube. Maybe have it password protected or unlisted so that only the people you share it with have access?

I haven't done a Q&A yet because the comic is still sort of new and I'm still building an audience. BUT every Sunday some of the Tapastic creators do #ComicTalk on Twiiter. I think there's some questions that the comic artists can answer. It's sort of like a Q&A

With ComicTalk you can't do Q&A with your audience, readers can not ask you a question. It's an activity where the host is asking creators questions. It doesn't really work to build any connection with your fanbase.

I think that this is an amazing idea! I personally would never do it because I'm uncomfortable showing my face to people on the internet /x\ but if you can do it, I say go ahead! I think that it's a great way to do a Q and A because of the connection between reader and author like you said, but perhaps the link might not work in mobile (I'm not sure about that though). Also I don't really know the Youtube community that well, so I'll leave that to your own judgment ewe
