How have your OC’s developed over the years?

I’ve had the same main oc for abouuuut seven years now. he’s changed durastically in terms of personality, age, and even in terms of what habits he has!

he used to be a very depressed person but also very unrealistic and anime-like. //cringe
now he is far more down to earth and realistic, but has developed other habits and even had a change in sexuality! how have your characters developed over time? It doesn’t have to be years, change can even occur in months!

The protagonist of my story use to be dumb and determined for comedic purposes and a pretty up beat character. Now he starts out as self-centered and arrogant, before developing into a character more in line with his original creation, albeit a bit more fleshed out and not nearly as dumb.

cath's like a flipside, shes visually pretty consistent, but her personalitys changed more than balors

she started as someone who was like, 100% warmth and openness, everyones best friend, but as i fleshed out the story more shes developed into a very layered character - shes got a lot of anger in her, and shes this funny balance of super open and suuuuper reserved. shes always been my favourite character in terms of affection, but shes now also my favourite character in terms of just being so interesting. if i dont get to write her whole backstory into twaw i might give her a spinoff, i love her sm.

troid and fual have developed the most as characters thought

their designs have developed visually alongside all the fomor designs - fual more than troid, bc we aint seen them for a while. but as characters, they were born as more or less throwaway stock characters, then evolved from knockoff chuckle brothers to a pair of key players. troid remained an asshole, but developed in their relationship w fual and became someone i understand better (no spoilers for where theyre gonna come in tho). fual, meanwhile, developed a rly interesting soft side that kinda came outta left field for me, and i now have quite a bit of affection for them.

My OC, Himuri being one of main characters of my comic went through A LOT of changes. First most obvious being his appearance. Five years ago he looked like this:

Though my ideas for what to do with him changed all the time and he had makeover done a lot of times. He had green/purple hererochromia at some point, but I don't have drawing of him from that time. Also he got shorter. xD

While I think his initial design is nice, I like how he looks now better, though I'll think about doing something with his old self. This is him now:

And this is silly comic I made about it. xD

In terms of personality, he also changed a lot. From being sad and insecure (there's other main character for that), he became confident, optimistic and quite stubborn.

Interesting question! Here are Echo and Hiro, two of my three protagonists, in the very first finished piece I ever made of them:

That was December 2010. At that point, I had only a vague idea about kids accidentally visiting bizarre parallel worlds. I hadn't even added the third protagonist Sati, who has become every bit as central to the story as these two. Anyway, flash forward to the present:

And they look a lot different. And I draw a lot different. And the personalities have not so much changed as now they have them. Echo is, in some ways, the classic adventurer. However, putting that kind of person into a modern American school produces a pretty dysfunctional child. Hiro is pretty laid-back, which is easy when school and sports come easy to you. And Sati is the social butterfly; hip, trendy and always ahead of the curve. Of course, as a writer, I'm always trying to throw monkey wrenches into those dynamics, but those are the defaults.

Well, one of my main characters (that I've had for like 10 years now, omgosh?? so long???) has changed pretty much, but only in terms of fashion.

Their personality is less maniac and more calm, but can turn angry at almost anything. Is less outgoing and more harsh in their behaviour.
Some things have changed but the plot remains the same.

When I first created my main heroine for Ice Princess, she was a 16 year old Japanese school girl named Yuki. She was always late for class, but got along great with all her classmates.
Now, she's a 15 year old, undisclosed nationallity, high school student named Gwyneira (Gwen for short.) She's always the first one to class, thought she now sleeps through lessons a lot. She's quiet, introverted, only has one close friend, and was previously the target for bullying.
Throughout all of her itterations, she's always had bleached white hair and icy blue eyes, for plot reasons.

Yeah, mine have visually changed a lot over the last 15 years. I think... personality/identity-wise, they've pretty much remained the same. The main transformations has been in their list of "goals" and such. Like, I've written in varying experiences for them (just as you in your day-to-day life experience new things) and so... that kind of exposure helped them grow a bit deeper.

Hey, I just made a picture about this recently.

Yes, my main character of my current comic (the right one) as well as the protagonists of my next one (the other two) started out as Sonic fan characters. I wasn't that young, when I entered the Sonic Fandom (about 18), but I was full of nostalgia and had a lot of fun doing Rollplays with a huge cast of characters (a had about 14 or so). A lot of the ideas didn't stick, but those three (as well as some NPCs) survived me growing out of the Sonic RP community.

They always had stories that were far removed from the game series, so I only needed to change the designs and well.. the whole world they inhabited and how they fit in in that. Well, maybe I had to change a lot But still, the original concepts came from there ^^

Personality wise, my characters have generally stayed the same. The most change that one of my characters experienced was probably becoming a god, but even then nothing really changed since he was already pretty overpowered.

I haven't made a series for them yet but the characters I grew up drawing changed drastically too, from humble anime design to more stylized anime design. From a hot head and ill mannered girl to a more emotionally stable down to earth woman. But I still draw the old designs because I love them.

Two of the characters from our current comic have pretty similar designs to characters from our old comic, that was cancelled. However, since I loved my babies so much I couldn't let them go completely!

Here is some concept art of OG Brie and Eleanor:

Both were inspired by magical girls, to Phieni's dismay. I, Maron, just can't help that I'm a such a huge magical girl fan! Brie was the silent protagonist type with a mysterious past, while Eleanor was the moody and dark antagonist type who also had a mysterious past. Oooh how original...

Here is Brie (the style changed a lot lmao) in one of the prologue comics:

The biggest change for Brie was probably her name. We decided that Brie just reminded us of cheese far too much and that it had to go. After debating about her name for a while, we came up with Billy. And I love it. She is my child. I'm definitely naming my first born Billy. In her honour.

Her personality got a pretty big overhaul as well, but I won't go into details as it will spoil the comic.

Unlike Brie/Billy, Eleanor got to keep her name. But the biggest change was her status as a magical girl. Now she's just a loner who likes to read books and shoot things sometimes.

She also became an elf, because elves are cool.

I LOVE this type of topic! I already have a PNG pre-made for this type of question for my comic Low-Tier Jane:

I want to add on to it more as the strip progresses. XD
This is just for Jane though, and on raw technicality, she did have much development time compared to other characters I have. Otherwise, I'm currently redesigning one of my prior characters because his design was overly simplistic.
In a humorous case, one of my sets of characters', a couple, personalities swapped. It started with the girl being shy, demure, and nervous with the boyfriend taking charge with a go-getter attitude, and now these days he's a nervous wreck while she rules the page.
