I use references occasionally, though much less these days than when I started my comic. Drawing certain things becomes easier the more you do it, so the need for references drops. However when new things are introduced references become needed again.
For me, pose references have been the most needed during my webcomic. Getting the anatomy and the angles just right can be difficult from just memory, so it's better to use a reference to see how it should go. I rarely use online references and prefer to use myself either by taking a photo (in case of difficult angles) or just using a mirror. Using myself allows me to find just the right pose I need and takes less time than finding the right photo online.
Using references is also a talent that needs to be practised on it's own. A lot of people have this idea that using a reference means copying something but it's more about seeing how something works. When I reference my own pose I don't draw myself in that pose, but I check how my body looks in that pose and try to capture the motion and see what my body is doing in that pose. If I want to draw an animal I'm not familiar with I don't just look for one photo, but a whole bunch of them and study them in order to draw the animal.
I am 100% supportive of using references because they are a tool that helps figure out how things look and work. References also take away some of the pressure of being able to draw anything and everything. I couldn't draw a car for the life of me from memory but with good references? Hell yeah, I can draw a car.
