So I am currently working on a comic entry for the Webtoon Contest. It's called Spellbound and you can check out the trailer which is currently released if you want an idea of what kind of style and art im going for. https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/spellbound/list?title_no=19770172

I have finished the prologue which is about 60 panels and split into two parts. I am currently rewriting the script for the first few episodes. I want the first few episodes to catch peoples attention and gain interest since it may be quite a few episodes before the story "truly" gets started.

What are some ways to get people interested and invested in a story even though it has just started? The story focuses heavily on Conjurers and their abilities. And while there will be action/ fighting and some dark and brutal scenes it won't be until far later. The first few chapters are supposed to be an introduction to the world/setting and it is also going to establish both the main characters and their relationship with their abilities.

I have also been struggling with this! So I hope you get some good feedback as I would be very interested to learn about this as well. I feel like I am harassing my limited social media following as it is... how much self promotion is too much!?

This is a really old topic so you might have found the answer.
Though from what I believe I will share my experience.
“ What are some ways to get people interested and invested in a story” That’s the whole question that needs to be answered.
Actually the answer lies in the question actually. “Get people interested in your story” get it? You need to invest your time and effort into reading, subscribing, liking, and leaving a comment on the works you like. Now as busy as a job that may sound, you can do it from 10 mins to 1 hr a day thats all. Just be consistent, review a few works, invest your metaphorical “0.02 cents” into someone else and eventually you will get that investment back double. But never EVER Tell people “Oh by the way i have a comic, please check my comic” etc. Be genuine and energetic in your comments, engage with other people around webtoons, and eventually you will get people saying “do you have a comic. you do? Lemmie check it. Oh wow this is good. And you already have 5 chapters? Awesome. I read all of them and can’t wait for the next one.”
I hope this helps and if you know something as well I’d love to learn from you. I am always open to new ideas and if they work better than mine i would always try them out.
Good luck!

This is actually really helpful, thanks for the advice! Can people on Webtoon get to your profile from your likes and comments? I'm still trying to figure out how to use it.

No, they can't. There are no profiles on webtoons. I don't think that tactic of participating in commenting on other webcomics works on webtoons, they're pretty light on the community engagement aspects of their site.

No idea man. Probably 95% of my subs just came from bring featured on the front page. I've promoted the comic in a few other ways but since I don't have much of a social media following anywhere else it hasn't done much.

My guess is upload more to increase your chances that people will see your comic on the fresh page?
upload ideas: upload concept art/ WIP work???? to build up an audience? like you could also do character sheets with character bios??? (obviously nothing that will spoil your comic) QnA? story HIstory? Inspiration? post on your other comics to promote this short story???
do guest art for popular artist or trade links to promote each other's work?
promote your comic on all social media outlets?
HOPE that helps best of luck the background drawing looks great!
