How to you get your comic ideas?

I guess I don't get ideas from some"where." I get a passion for something that I can't fully experience unless I write it out. That will be influenced by media and things that I'm taking in at the time, so there's that.

Holy MOLY this is just like me! All I do is take bits and pieces from all of the media I consume.

Mostly, I just keep my ears open. If I overhear people talking, I might get an idea. If I overhear the voices in my own head, I'll DEFINITELY get an idea (but sometimes it's best not to go through with those ideas).

I get ideas from everywhere, mostly from listening to instrumental music.
But for my current comic, it actually started as a journal and went off course and turned into something else. I think probably because my life was pretty boring and writing myself into some kind of fantasy world would be cooler and then the whole thing basis of the comic was born. It's not like the original draft.... very very different. But yeah, it came from me realizing my life is boring. lol

This is the advice I give to everybody. Just take other ideas and twist them around or mash them together with other ideas until you have something that seems either cool or original.

I listen to soundtracks from movies or video games for the most part. Or sometimes I'll watch a sitcom or a funny movie.

My brain is a perpetual information sponge and incessant idea tumbler - I'm always feeding new nuggets in and bashing the existing hoard into gems (hopefully). I only have one comic going right now - but I've got scripts filed six issues in advance, a long game planned for The Beard and I'm constantly chipping away at pitch documents, sample scripts and world building for a plethora of other projects I hope to find collaborators for in the near future.

I get ideas all the time. But figuring out if they're good enough... well, my comic is centred around being a stay-at-home-parent, so it has to fit the strip. But other than that, I've tested some of the ideas on Facebook. If a lot of my followers/friends like it, and it still seems funny to me later on, I put it on a list to tidy up and work into a comic later.

I have A.D.D, a very vivid imagination on top of being a little bit obsessive compulsive about my work. I get a lot of my ideas from just a million random thoughts that cross my mind throughout the day. I sort of just roll with the best idea I had for that day and try to make something out of it. It doesn't hurt that I play video games and watch shows & anime in my free time, that's probably what helped me initially to get the idea to make the characters and the story for my comic on Tap. :]

Is it bad that I wish I had an answer for this?
One comic happened because I doodled a person then ate tacos.
The other happened because I wanted a funny bl. And made an adorable character.
The newest happened because...well I was at work and Aero was like : "MAKE A COMIC ABOUT ME" Literally nothing sparked it. I was writing up jobs haha.
I blame my constant daydreaming and crazy high imagination. Real life is for suckers.

it's usually one of 3 things for me
1. I watch/read an existing series and think I can do it better
2. I read a summary of an existing series, misunderstand it, and end up with a cool idea
3. I love an existing series and want to recreate what I love about it in my own stories.

You can also mix and match things or get a fun idea from "what if" scenarios. There's no real wrong way except for straight up copying a story and not changing things.

I don't actively think "what am I gonna do for this story" instead either the concept or the imagery hits me like a ton of bricks out of nowhere. I tend to listen to a lot of music, read a lot of books, and watch a lot of crap on youtube everyday, though, this feeds my brain so I can actually flesh out the story after I've gotten the lightning strike.

My comic is educational so I'm a little restricted. I want to present the language in a funny but offbeat way that doesn't come off as too forced.

Generally I try to imagine how the little robot might react if it came across, say, a cat for the first time. Often I'm just sitting on the bus after classes and it kind of clicks together.

I reckon a lot of it comes from television, cartoons and video games. I used to watch a lot of shows and play a lot when I was a kid.
