Is there something you wish you could change about your story?

Such as something you wished you did better earlier on in the story, maybe a better idea later hit you, and you wish you could of placed it into your story earlier?

I feel this so hard. There are a lot of times that I want to go back and fix my first few pages, because I really didn't know what I was doing art-wise. But I figure that it's better to have a reference for improvement than changing everything.

I also always question if I focused on the wrong characters at the wrong time. Like should a character that's big but doesn't do anything for awhile be shown in the prelude, then dropped for a few chapters? or just introduced when they are necessary? That's a question I find myself struggling since my story has 3 plotlines that converge. idk

Yes and no. There was a scene in the first chapter of my comic that I struggled with. I had two options and had to choose which one to go with the night of the upload. To this day I am not certain that my choice was correct, and it is quite a character developing scene for my main character Grave.

But I like that both Grave and I have to live with the consequences of her actions. If we like it or not.

I really like that mentality of both artist and character have to live with the choices you made.

I had a bit with flashbacks about a character's mind control which was confusingly done, in retrospect. The timeline of events is not super clear unless the audience is paying close attention. But other than that, not really, no.

Two things:

1. I wish I'd given Akane more stuff to do in the earlier chapters (she's due to do more stuff than simply react to Masahiro, but that isn't until later in the story). She IS one of the main characters, and not just a mascot.

2. The hair-colour and skintones of both Masahiro and Akane have been kind of skewing too... white. Hair too light brown, skintone too pale, etc. Which is different from my first design-sketches, but I screwed it up somewhere along the way, and have kept replicating my mistake. I've adjusted it from chapter 4 forward, but I'll be printing a collected volume of chapters 1-3 to sell at cons this year, so I'm looking at having to decide whether to do colour corrections on 75+ pages or to just live with it. :T

I'm actually just getting a chance to to that. because I'm revamping Talesfromswipecity pages to bring them to Tap, it had given me a chance to move some things about a bit. lots of things are in a time frame order so they are stuck where they are but things like my prison rescue have been moved. I am putting in three scenes that have not yet been read because I left them out when I was posting on my own site .

Still not fully happy with season one as I think a lot of people are put off by it, but I'm hoping people give my comic another go later on and my subs increase as I go, but plod on what ever.

I have for the last three days been going threw my pages of existing chapters and writing them into my word processor to save into seasons. I wanted to be sure of no more typos. at present it looks like my fans are going to get 10 seasons before I start writing new stuff again.

my biggest wish is that I brought my comic over to Tap two years ago when I first started.

My strips have little to no continuity, but I sure as hell wish I drew the first 30 episodes better...shit the first 37 at this point.

eh overall I'm learning so not to worried about it.

Both yes and no. Beyond the Ordinary is my very first long run web comic, which is over 300 pages by now.
Pierre could've had more personality, haha! But he's pretty reserved and doesn't make much of a fuzz whereas Beive stands out more and I like that difference between them.

I wish I could change the pacing a little, however it was never really intended as a web comic when I started it. It has always been meant to be printed.
In printed form I think it looks pretty rad, it's better fitted for it.
It's supposed to be a rather slow story and easy to read for all ages! :D

But... Story wise? Nah, I think it's just the way I intended to.
With BTO being halfway through (omg I never thought I'd make it this far) there's some loose ends I need to tie up, but there's some time.

One thing I wish I could change with my main comic Seishin Patona is apply better paneling to help with immersion. With my later pages I am starting to understand how to change the pacing with the panel sizes and shapes. Also I want each panel to sometimes work together so they act as a single entity just like how you link what happens in each panel to create a narrative.

As for my secondary comic In The Midst I wish I made it more of a romance. It turned more into a drama but, romance actually influences the plot so I have to be glad for that.

Yes and no

For the yes. With Lalita at the end of the universe I would want to change pacing and style and layout of pages. Just to make it look more like how it looks now.

BUT at the same time i don't want to change anything, from where it started to where it is now it kind of holds this special place in my heart where i love all of it the good and bad. I also want to go on the form of don't go back keep moving forward so i need to keep that mentality to keep the comic running

Especially the exposition on how the world works I really rushed. Further I wish I had start my story with the main character in action.

Jupp. I got a pretty nice idea about how the first chapter of Strayer could have been better structured and how I could have had all the things that happened in there, but with faster pacing. I even thought about re-doing chapter 1, but I think that would be unfair to the readers, who want to know how stuff progresses.

For Hobo story, right now I'm revamping the beginning but if I really had to change some thing, maybe have a time where people stop nagging at each other because in very scene their always have to be someone who's mad at someone else and that's not an enjoyable experience. Oh, for sure!

A lot of smaller things. There are smaller things in the first couple chapters that are kinda problematic because I didn't know better at the time, and there are places where I see now how I could've set things up better -- I definitely had time to set up the idea that the blood aberrants' heart is vulnerable before they were fighting a blood aberrant, and that would've made the end of that fight much smoother, narratively, for example.
Every time I post page 1.23 somewhere it's hard not to apologise for it -- it's the biggest infodump in the comic, that taught me that in the future I really needed to think ahead when I know I'll need exposition later, and plan where I'm going to put it!
There was one scene I felt for a long time had set up one of the characters very poorly, and I was really unhappy about it for a while afterwards. Ultimately, though, my dissatisfaction with that scene helped me figure out what was important to show in that character in future scenes, and I feel a lot more assured of their direction now!

So yeah, there's a lot of little things I look back and think "DANG I coulda--!" but not like... not to the extent that I'm pining to go back and change it. Just things I see now that I coulda done better, but I learned from them, and now I know to do better going forward!

Question for some of you. What's stopping you from just reworking the scene over?

Oh yeah! I wish we would have done a lot differently, but we were just learning. I would have done better with the story early on and maybe did it a bit differently.
I know my husband cringes at the early art on it. That is one perk of a self contained, one shot I guess. You do it all in one time and stay consistent.

@ToonDoctor Why we don't change it? Well, time mostly. That and we are so far into it now, I don't know if it is worth the time to go back. Not saying we wouldn't move it to a different media and possibly change it there.

Question for some of you. What's stopping you from just reworking the scene over?

It's not worth it, man! Most of the time, anyway. I'm always going to be improving, and Runewriters is a long story. If I went back to fix every time I noticed that "dang, I know a better way I could've done that" the story would never get told!

Plus I feel like, I'm in the middle of telling a story, so it'd be weird for me to stop and be like "Oh, wait, no, I messed it up, okay, when I said that Han shot the guy, forget that; the other guy shoots him and THEN Han shoots back -- okay where was I" and change the reality of what my readers have already seen. I avoid doing this if I can!!

I would change some of the pacing for Heavy Horns' first chapter, but it doesn't bother me too much to actually go back and do so.
I would also redraw some shots of Ian's face in Erie Waters in the first several pages. Maybe I'll do that for print.
Generally I'm pretty happy how all my series have started.
