Kinda disheartening when your comic gets so many views but not enough people like it enough to subscribe

Probably the first time I've felt a bit discouraged since starting Glitch

Been doing this for over half a year now and haven't even hit 100 subs yet. Not sure what I'm doing wrong as for every few subscribers I gain, I lose a few.

Can't be the only one that feels this way, and I'm not saying I should be entitled to more subscribers, but I just needed to complain a bit since I never get to do that lol.

I totally feel you. But then we shouldn't work on comic just to get subscribers. There must be an intrinsic motivation to push you going. The extrinsic stuffs are for extra pump-ups to get you hyped to work joyfully.

On the side note though, your comic has the same title as that other comic . lol

I read couple pages of your comic, and noticed some issues... there's nothing to hook readers in. It looks like a very typical boys comic with super powers and monsters and a protagonist who is an underdog in the most typical way. Maybe think of something unique and intersting feature to draw the readers in? (For some ppl, it could be the art, or the subject matter of the story, or the way your character interact, or the battles that utilize a unique way of fighting). Take some time to think of those. Also... in the other comic with the title, there is a very unique feature of 2D pixelated beings that seem evil yet very benevolent (so far at least).

Hey, I think it's better to have a bigger viewcount than your subscriber count, but that could just be me. I mean, imagine if you had tons of subscribers with dead accounts? To be honest I was on Tapastic without an account for a long time. So I suppose for all that time I was just a watcher, and bookmarked comics.

There is no record of me coming back again and again, so maybe your watchers are doing the same? I wouldn't sweat it. The point is, people are there and reading your comic and that's a truly awesome thing for any webcomic artist! :>

for me, rather than views and subs and favs and likes, i always expect comments ;w; it's, like, unless the person actually expresses their thoughts with words, i don't actually believe they like my stuff? it's kinda dumb but it's how i feel, haha! so that's what makes me lose heart sometimes, is if no one talks to me. (i recover fairly quickly tho since i do enjoy making comics and drawing for myself too BD)

so anyway, i feel you. i've been with your comic from the first pages and i'm still at the stage where i'm seeing where it goes.

Well I know how you feel but I only just started in August. My drawings aren't great, I have to wait until sunset so I can safely use my computer without it burning up due to the heat I have here. It doesn't help that my bedroom stores the heat like an oven >_<

Yeah and that other comic only started uploading like a week or 2 ago lol.

Our comics aren't that similar besides the name though.

And yeah I do it for fun, but its still disheartening to work hard on something and barely get anywhere for a while, and have someone come in and immediately get more subs than you in less than half the time.

Ah yeah I get what you mean, not dumb at all. You want to read what people think about the page and discuss the story and what they think about it so far. I understand that.

And I remember you being one of my first subs. Thanks a lot for that! I think my first mistake was not drawing out the first chapter ahead of time because originally I had like 20 pages drawn for the prologue but I shortened it a LOT. Then I started on the first chapter and uploaded each page as I finished. Not gonna do that for chapter 2.

Yeah I'll probably get over it fairly quickly too, since I really do enjoy just drawing it and knowing even a few people like it enough to read every week.

whelp I realized with one of my comics it's only 30 pages long and finished so no one really needs to sub it. And it's really short so... yeah. It has thousands of views but only a few subs haha...

I totally feel you... Well I started VCvsDvsCFAD since July and I feel I'm getting views and subs veeeery poorly compared with other comics. I've been uploading constatly and I try to share it through all the social media I have and is not like enough, maybe it has to do with "is not interesting" but is kinda difficult to see what's wrong if nobody says a thing ><.

I can't share the feeling, but I can understand it. I've got 245 subs to 13.8 thousand views, but I starting my comic knowing a lot of people won't be into it, so I don't expect much. Overall I would say that is pretty good considering my comic only has a little over 20 pages. What does make me curious is when people unsub, I always lose 3-4 after an update and it makes me wonder what turned them off. Maybe I could have improved from it, but eh, oh well.
People suck like that.

Sometimes I get a little down when I look at the numbers. I have almost 2K views & almost 30 subs- but then I have to keep in perspective that I just started my comic 3 months ago; for me to have these numbers after 3 months is not bad...actually it's pretty decent.

SO I just keep plugging away and keep trying to find ways to get more views and subs. I'm just happy that there are people that like my comic.

I FEEL you so hard. My comic has 38 followers right now (they're few, but loyal) , and sometimes I feel a little down when I see the popular and trending comics XDDD
BUT, If I feel down, I won't be able to do what I like, and drawing stories is what I like. So I just keep going.
My humble advice: Cheer up and like a wise said: Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!! :)))

Well, it's kind of normal with long-form comics. You not only need to find people who like it but also committed enough to reads the whole thing from the beginning.
So you will always have a high view vs. subs ratio because those who are committed will read the whole thing from beginning to latest page.

Hey, no prob! And yeah having buffer is helpful. More-so in the beginning so new readers have a lot to go off of to decide if the comic is something they'd enjoy or not as soon as possible.

Welcome to the club OP. I've been doing this for over a year now on and off with my comic Life of an Aspie. Losing subs is a part of the game. Yeah it sucks at first when you barely have any subs at all, but after a while you just roll with it when you notice your sub count is a bit lower than it was the previous day. If it makes you feel any better, the people with tens of thousands of subs or more don't actually have the numbers the counter says they do.

i.e Let's say John Doe's comic John's Jolly Fun has 25,000 subs. Because of "dead subs", the number is probably closer to 23,000 at best. In terms of likes, JJF is probably about half the number of subs again at best since not everyone likes every episode. Comments for a new episode of JJF are probably a fourth of the total sub count yet again at best.

High views is good actually cus you know, ad revenue. Like what most people said losing subs is normal though my sub count has been stagnant for months now. (My notifs say that someone sub but then the numbers stayed the same)

I'm more disheartened that despite all the sub count, I barely get any feedback on my comic. It seemingly means people are not that interested and I'm doing a really terrible job. I'd love to get into the trending section even for 5 seconds but if my readers don't comment, it won't likely happen.

Don't get me wrong though I enjoy doing my comic way too much and I won't stop just because of that. On the other hand, I'm starting to not enjoy my stay here on Tapastic because of this. My comic performs better on webtoons so I kinda don't understand what is happening.

Your comic is doing a hell of a lot better than mine...I'm sorry I don't feel too sorry for you. I mean if you only had like 10, then sure, but 90 is still a lot plus you haven't even been posting for a year.

You should be grateful for how far you got and what you have. Who knows, you could gain 10 new followers from people who follow random comics but never read them...and I doubt you would want that.

Subscribers aren't as big as a concern for me, as I am more worried about contributors to my GoFundMe page. I write stories for the dark sci-fi series, Age of the Atroximals, and I'd love to make it my full-time job, but I only had one person contribute and I don't even think it's arranged for a monthly thing.

As for the low sub count compared to views, I know a lot of people that read online (instead of using the app) bookmark comics rather than sub. This happens for many reasons, like trying to avoid notifications. I even have friends irl who bookmarked my series instead of subbing just because they didn't feel like making a profile. So that could be part of why views are greater than subs (at least that's what I tell myself lol).
