Admins are kind of semi necessary, but only when it’s a bigger thing. When it’s like, 30 people, they’re not really a thing ig. And you should probably figure out where it’s gonna happen if you can’t use discord

Yeah, I'm currently looking for platforms that can hold as many people as possible

You're gonna need moderation, it is absolutely necessary when putting any number of strangers together in an online setting. Unspoken rule type deals are unsustainable.

Also, I would seperate based on age, preferably no minors. I've been in online spaces before where the inclusion of minors created tension and frustration with both the adults and the children.

These two groups are best left seperated, especially if you desire a system of "unspoken rules". It's a recipe for disaster.

I mean, I get that. But it still feels kind of messed up not being able to be included due to something you can't control (I.e. your age.) I'm still getting the hang of Slack, so I'm not sure about the making moderators... but I have had bad experiences with moderators. I'm not sure if granting that kind of power is the best idea...

I don't think it's unreasonable at all.

Children interact differently with eachother than adults. Not too mention kids are more vulnerable, especially within groups of adults.

Call it discriminatory if you want, but that doesn't take away the fact that kids and adults in online spaces, especially without clear moderation and oversight, is recipe for disaster.

The only way I've seen writing/creative communities making this kinda work on Slack or Discord was to make private channels for adults and then a mod approves the user to access, but they cant make a user prove they are telling the truth about their age.

I joined a community like this once and I was way too uncomfortable being surrounded by minors because of the content of my story, so I left. Plus, I couldnt relate to any of their conversations because I do not have homework and I dont need permission from my parents lmao.
It will probably be the case with this one ya'll are starting, where it cant be helped who joins and if someone is uncomfy, they have the optiont to leave it.

Usually, writers from the tapas server who get to know each other over time will make a private little server with 10ish people who are adults.

if there is community like this for adults please add me, it's so hard to find people around my age.

I just figured out how to create admins in Slack, and I finished making the private channels for adults... hopefully this works out :sweat_01:
