This is a great idea! Here's a section from chapter 4 of my novel:
Few things in life are so terrible that they cannot be made better with sushi. Fortunately, there was a Japanese restaurant down a nearby side street. Unfortunately, Thade was in the middle of the first situation he had ever encountered where the impending arrival of his favorite food did little to soothe him.
The restaurant was close to empty, so they had the entirety of the square sushi bar to themselves. They sat on either side of the one accessible corner, perpendicular to each other. Thade ordered a green tea, which he was primarily using to warm his hands and have something to fidget with. Cassian got a personal bottle of sake, and was pouring his second cup before he spoke. “Y’know, it’d be fantastic if you said something.”
Thade started to chew on the inside of one cheek.
“Anything? ‘You’re crazy?’ Or maybe, ‘Do you think I’m crazy?’ That’s a classic.”
Classic or not, Thade only stared harder into the depths of his tea cup while keeping his head high.
Cassian changed tactics. He fell silent himself, knocking back his sake, and stared at his stoic companion. His resolve did not last long, though. “Christ, you put the Ice Queen to shame, you know that? Come on, say anything!”
For one piercing, satisfyingly vindictive moment, Thade considered replying with “anything.” But one of them had to be the adult, and if it wasn’t going to be the man who claimed to be three times older than him, then it might as well be the teenager.
