Roenan's got it hard, yo!
"As he watched the trees, a bird landed on one of the larger branches and it was carrying a twig with its beak. The twig was awkwardly long and Roenan let out a quiet laugh as he watched it struggle to bring the twig to the location it was determined to, getting caught up against other small branches on the way. When it made its way to its destination, it added the twig to a pile that looked like a forming nest. Another bird flew up with another small stick and made its way over a little more gracefully. They leaned in close and exchanged the stick so that the bird building the nest could continue to work on its project. The other flew off, likely to look for more.
Roenan felt a twinge in his heart as he watched. It was pretty easy for those birds to build their life together. It was easy for them to create a home for their family. They didn’t have much to worry about. Sure, they had their predators and some evil branches along the way... and yeah, most of their build-up was that of instinct, rather than emotion or feeling. But something about witnessing that exchange made Roenan so envious.
Humans had it hard. It wasn’t easy for all of them to build their lives together. It wasn’t easy for all of them to create a home for their family. They had so much to worry about... they even had more predators than Roenan cared to think about, especially as another wave of heat rolled through his body as a reminder. They had feelings. They had thoughts, emotions, intuition, drive, the ability to rule the world, and the ability to destroy the world. They even had the capability to control others and the misfortune of being controlled. They were the most logical creatures on earth and, somehow, he wondered if they were also the most vulnerable.
Roenan and slid down the wall to a sitting position. He brought his hand up and scratched at his eyebrow, running his other hand through his hair as he let out a sigh."
