I’m very glad for all the support, I am a little worried it won’t be allowed but I do really hope it is since there is so little exposed and I have moments in the future where non-sexual nudity will just come up. I’ll be sure to let people know what happens I just hope I have good news to give, and that’s truly horrible for that artist, I wonder if they appealed the process though? Perhaps they didn’t?
Oof wow Webtoons is crazy strict. I have some scenes in later chapters that might be questionable... I will have to get creative it seems! Sorry that happened though, thats so annoying and the hypocrisy is so stupid. Like - there's no good reason for it. There's no nipple and honestly when I read it I didnt even notice!
Ffff wow! I didn't even know that character was topless until you pointed it out. There isn't even cleavage or anything!
Even though what my comic got flagged for was much worse than this, I can empathize. I started posting my comic there when they didn't have any super defined rules against non-sexual nudity, there's even a mature content feature you can check off on the upload screen that's is still up, so I thought it was fine. But after being featured some anus flagged my nude pages, which I was never informed of. I found out while looking to see if I got new comments. I sent them an email, but they never responded so I deleted, then reposted my whole comic with super ugly censor bars and a warning at the beginning stating my comic is only for adults.
Admittedly I can understand them taking the scene down since it was full frontal nudity, but it still kinda sucks due to the muddiness I mentioned with the rules.
Now they have a really clear "NO MATURE CONTENT OF ANY KIND" bit on the upload screen... right below the check box for mature content. With all the flagging, and new level of restrictions for canvas comics, I assume they intend the that section to be for young children and preteens. Like a baby's play area.
I hope the staff respond, and you get your page put back up. This whole mess is so stupid, I wouldn't even care if they didn't have such double standards, and weren't hypocrites with their premium comics getting special privileges.
I actually have something to say regarding the censorship issue and Tapas.
A few months ago they reached me because one panel of one of me series portrayed nudity. It was shocking to me because it was from a finished comic with more than 4 years of updates and I always thought I was respecting their guidelines.
Turned out to be a panel where a male character was sleeping naked and half a testicle was visible. I felt outraged about the idea of having to censor what was literally a tiny curve line in a panel with no sexual connotations; even though I kept it cool and had a few chats with the moderator. After a while, they discussed the topic again and told me that they understood my frustration and decided to not block my comic because of that.
To me that's what makes Tapas better than Webtoons, the fact that you can talk and discuss with the staff and your voice actually matters. I have a way larger audience here and they are lovely, so Webtoons is just a place to post my work without much interest over the place.
Honestly- my first instinct was to be petty and scribble all over the page to block it out, but I don’t like the idea of doing that now. I mean I’m still pissed and its made worse seeing all the people on this thread who have creative, different content that’s been flagged. I really want the rules just to be changed I’m not sure if it will happen but maybe if some of originals or bigger creators stood up for this webtoons would have to listen. I love Olympus lore, but every other image of Persephone is like -huge cleavage- so why the heck can’t small time creators do it??
That’s a really awesome resolution, my stuff has been featured once on Tapas (which I assume someone had to go through it) and nothing was ever flagged here?! I think it’s just that people have gotten to point where on webtoons they’ll accept moderators removing their content without fighting back because they either don’t get results or the moderators are incredibly hypocritical when it comes to the canvas vs the original works they’ve published.
I read it before I knew anything about BL, and the tropes they involved and some of the harmful content they can push. I was into mystery anime/mangas so I picked it up was really surprised by the stuff it included. That said this is like serial killer BL so it’s way more graphic and non consensual than what you typically see in the genre, even on the extreme side. I had to drop it pretty soon after the first couple of chapters-
Pff to be honest I would have just deleted my comic entirely, to me Webtoons is a trash site that can't even bother to have basic functions, but I had readers on there that I felt bad for abandoning so I decided to stay while being a petty asshole about it. If I can just get one Webtoons user to migrate to Tapas or another superior site instead, the pettiness will be worth it.
Someone once suggested that the special treatment their originals get is due to them already be regulated by the staff, and it would be too hard for them to do the same for canvas comics, but that's still pretty high double standards. It also misleads canvas creators into thinking they have the same creative freedom. The Webtoons staff can't even bother to get a notifications system, allow links in comments, so I doubt they will change their content rules anytime soon.
