Yup, I was looking up something else to see about something else, plugged my real name into Amazon and found that about 5 of my audio drama scripts (that used to be on Lulu) are now being sold on Amazon.

Too early to call my attorney (I won't write Amazon, he can) but he's getting an email quick like.

And here I thought today was going to be a nice day.

(I originally posted this under Writers/Novels but I think, should this go into discussion after the initial "sorry that happened to you" it might serve a purpose to everyone to keep an eye on their work and where it may or may not be plucked onto another site.

that said, this is nothing new to me and I'm not running around tearing out my hair or being overly upset, annoyed yes, but not overly upset. Also I strongly suspect this is an overseas company and there's not much you can do about it.

but... I've been lax in keeping track of my own work so I'm hoping this might serve as some sort of help as to how vulnerable all of us are and how much we really do need to pay attention to old work.)

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you. I hope it all gets resolved soon.

I have handed it over to my attorney who will probably write a basic cease and desist to Amazon. I strongly suspect it's a group overseas they did that to a non-fiction book of mine years ago and my publisher was hard hit with small pieces of several books being condensed into one.

Still... it's a bit of a punch to the gut when you see.

Maybe my grandmother was right in her Croatian accent: You should be nurse, I vant you be nurse. You do good in this world." Love ya, Gramma

No kidding. It doesn't look like any of them sold (not at 50 bucks for 22 pages) and the people who liked my work with the audio drama company know all they have to do is ask and I'll send them an electronic copy. The audio dramas that are for sale there (the real dramas) are all on audible so those I don't worry about.

sigh.... need to find a positive spin on this.... it's getting my name out there??? nahhhh, not when the name of the company is... lord save me and I'm an atheist... name is "null" and yes, I asked my attorney to "void" them.

I need coffee. is it to early to start drinking?

I think this is going to be one of those "f***ity-f***-f*** days... all you can do is laugh.

Thank god for that lawyer. Boy is gonna get out of bed like, "well that's the rest of my day."

That's why he's on retainer. Loves me my guy. Pussycat in real life, Wolverine in the legal field, but politely. Y'know one of those people that convince you all that scenery is sure pretty and then you pass those flaming gates and the river Styx.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", they say.
Plagiarism must be like a yandere love affair, then.

Did you have them for sale through Lulu's Amazon marketplace???
Cause I do know they have a "connected sales" section.

If not, like wow. And even more wow this money that's made from sales isn't going to you.
I'm sick of how Amazon's creators/ect program just.... nukes and isn't beneficial to creators. (I looked up how much it'd cost to do a print of my book through amazon rather than lulu, and it was no joke, at least $5 more added to the price simply because "amazon" and that wasn't $5 I'd see as profit either)

I haven't looked at Lulu for years, obviously and I was pretty sure I'd cancelled everything. I don't see that any of the scripts sold (really who'd pay 50.00 for a 22 page script??? from someone with a minor career? Laughable.

But I'll dredge up the old passwords etc. and see what I can get moving. The only good thing about it is it gives me a bigger presence... hahahahah surrrrreeee oh well, it's better than none, I guess.

what a day.

I recall that to get a legit ISBN from lulu for free, you had to click to sell on the amazon marketplace. Otherwise you're given essentially an item code number that is not an ISBN, and is strictly for lulu's factories to pull up your files for printing. I know because one of my early test books I printed (lol what is formatting back then?) happens to have 2 boxes on the bottom back cover - one that the ISBN sits in, and one the lulu barcode uses.

Obviously going to have to do some research tomorrow. This was back in 2009 (I think) that I put anything up. I keep fairly decent track and this has manifested recently. thanks for the information. Like I said, I'd gone in and left Lulu so I'm annoyed.

wow, this is horrible :frowning: I hope it'll get resolved soon.
