I'm definitely revisiting this thread for all the reads this summer (especially since work is going to be absolutely dead for like three months)! Thanks to everyone who has shared so far for showing us your work!
I'll post mine now, hope ya'll are ready to be depressed (man, revisiting back to my first chapters... I need to edit LOL):
Roenan Farrah's eyelids were unusually heavy as he tried to blink them open. His heart stuttered for a moment when the thought occurred to him that he may have lost his vision. Or his heart had actually just stuttered. Maybe it was giving out on him. He didn't know.
He finally managed to see a dark blue streak at the bottom of his vision, almost black with how dark it was. It was definitely night-time. There was a throbbing pain across his nose and he realized his eyes were heavily swollen as he weakly brought his fingers up to brush them.
He lay for a moment, his forehead pressed to the cold wooden floor, feeling his breath go painfully in and slowly out. The floor around him was sticky with luke-warm blood and there was a slight gurgling sound each time he inhaled. What had happened?
The days following your death were the days that I questioned everything. Where did it go wrong? Was I not good enough for you? When did you become unhappy?
I never saw a hint of your unhappiness. But when you took your own life, I realized I’d been living in a fragile, glass world. What I mean by that is… I thought I had it all and that everything was perfect. But when my world was dropped, everything shattered completely. You were my world and my life would never be the same after you were gone.
It was twenty-two years ago when I first met you, Callum. We were three, at our first day of preschool, and we both didn’t want to leave our mothers. I was always scared to be alone. But when you walked through that door, I was distracted by your unique dark hair and light eyes… and I was immediately drawn to you. I don’t recall moving on my own, but, I recall moving. Moving toward you with my eyes trained. I remember when you glanced up and your bright eyes met mine with an intensity that I'll never forget. I had never felt so complete.
