It looks good @aqua03! The only thing I can sort of imagine that you would have had trouble with is the arms, but it gets hard to make look right when you have a lot of fluffy hair/fur. Kinda like how people who wear large coats or jumpers look thicker even when their not.
How are those parts (face/tail/arms) giving you trouble?

Just been working on trying to do sketches every off day. It gives me a break from the comic work and challenges me to draw things that I don't really draw too often. It's always nice to challenge yourself!

@HomeBrewComics

Thanks! Yeah, I'm having a bit of trouble with making the arms look muscular and fluffy, but I can never quite get the proportions correct on that regard. As for the face and tail: I was trying to move the face in a slightly more "human" direction due to an important plot point involving beings with more human-like faces in my comic reboot and the tail I can't decide if it should look like a cat's tail, or a shark's tail if that makes sense. Again, thanks for the feedback, it really helps.

@aqua03

Not sure if you’ve already done this, but if you draw the arm first as if it’s human and has no fur, that could give you a foundation for where to put the fur, so that you know where it would fall and you can get that buff and fluffy look.

Huh, neat. Never thought of it like that. Thanks for the input. :slight_smile:

@aqua03

No problem. :slight_smile: That’s not to say she doesn’t look buff and fluffy, but that might help you get more anatomically correct arms and just makes the drawing process a little easier. (It does look great, so far! :slight_smile: )

@Reign

Sounds like a good plan. Should really practice anatomy in general more.

@aqua03

Anatomy is a big pain in the butt. Your anatomy looks pretty good so far. Just in the mind of Reign and how I work, the foundation that I mentioned could just help you fix minor mistakes and polish it up, and then get the fur to fall on the arms the way you want it to. When @HomeBrewComics mentioned fur being like a coat, it just made me think that mangaka draw all of the muscles and then lay the clothing over the body. At least, that’s how the manga teacher that I watched taught. I figured fur might be the same? :thinking:

1st post here, not found time for intro but saw the title and, well, here's something I just finished while practising some comic style work.If you remember this guy do jump in.

@Reign nailed it @aqua03. It's like when you draw a normal human arm, you don't start straight with the muscles. You have a frame work (stick figure, shapes or whatever else could be used) and then you add the muscle.
All you need to do is layer fur over those initial steps and you should be golden!

On a side note, muscle is hard to show when you are placing fur over it. Have you even seen a naked chimp? Damn those guys are muscular, but their hair covers most of it. Not saying that you shouldn't bother in making muscular characters with fur, but that it can be hard to make them look muscular when their fur is hiding it.

The face looks good in my opinion. It still fits your character while also in that in between space of human and animal. I assume you are trying to go for a Thunder Cats kinda vibe?
Tail wise, I like the cat tail. But the tail seems like more of a creative choice, since it looks really good as it is. If you want a shark tail or a cat one, the choice ultimately falls onto you! :slight_smile:

@HomeBrewComics

Thanks! Yeah, was going for a bit of a "80's Science-Fantasy" vibe with the characters in their designs. I'll definitely experiment with that "draw the muscle first, then lay the fur over it" thing you and the others recommended to me. I think I might go with the shark tail to give her a bit more alien vibe (She's supposed to be a biomechanical dragon ,after all.) but I'll keep experimenting with it.

Recently did some experimenting with different brush styles for my comic reboot. Was experimenting with using the pencil tool for a more "pixelated" look reminiscent of an old video game or RPG. What do you guys think of it?

I like brush 3 but you might be able to mix them up using brush 1 where there are more shadows

Thanks. I might still play around with it to see how it looks in that regard.
