(I'll admit, this is a problem. I was thinking I'd use virtual dice to get a number, you do the same, and whoever rolls higher wins the action. Math isn't my strongest suit so I'm not sure which dice to use.)

(i mean, in that case, we could just use a d2 - going any highers only relevant when we have advantages, or theres different grades of win and fail)

(How about we use d100s, the higher number "wins", and the action succeeds or fails based on the number as a percentage score.)

(How would we verify it though? I was thinking we'd screenshot the results but in theory you could just take an assortment of screenshots and pick out the favorite ones. Maybe include the computer's clock?)

(im willing to trust you if youre willing to trust me. im down with making losing rolls make better stories)

Viking, obviously.

Gwizslaug the Chosen is a chaotic-neutral type, mainly because he constantly forgets which side he's on. He's maxed out on strength and charisma, and intelligence took whatever remaining scraps were left. He's incredibly loyal, but sometimes fights for the wrong side "just to make it fair".

Gwizslaug also enjoys long walks on the beach and a good strawberry cocktail. He's a complex individual.

@punkarsenic (I think we'll go with a d100. Anything under 70 is a fail. The lower the number, the narrower the win and the more painful the loss.)

@gwizdala (I'll just give you Herger. Please note that he's a period-accurate Viking. Anything blatantly ahistorical is out.)

"Finally, civilization!" Montoya said.

You could see the thatched roofs from the other side of the river. The houses weren't much, just one or two storeys tall, but they looked like humans lived in them.

You had to pass their fields to get to the village. According to Montoya they were growing maize, beans, and squash.

The village seemed deserted.

You hear rustling and scratching, but nobody comes to the door. It remains firmly barred.

Firmly shuttered. These are squat little wooden houses with thatched roofs. A raised boardwalk means you don't have to track any dirt from the main street.

There was jingling sound as Abelard put one foot in the stirrup and swung the other foot over the horse. He adjusted his seat and pulled his lance from where he'd planted it into the ground.

Toshiro took a running start and vaulted onto his own horse. Like Abelard, he took the reins in his left hand, leaving his right hand free to check his bow.

The others did the same with their equipment. Even the priest made sure he could draw his saber.

Toshiro looked around and spoke. From the tone, it must've been "Where is everyone?"

The river murmured. Somewhere, a dog barked. A wooden sign swung in the wind.

Herger growled and stalked down the boardwalk, tapping the walls and doors with his axe.

You looked into a window. Someone stared back from behind a curtain, then pulled the curtain shut.

"I think something's put the scare on them," I call out, walking back to the group, "I heard rustling, and saw a face."

I take another look around, is there anything other than homes? A bar? What's a town without a bar?

Main street was deserted, but it wasn't completely silent. Someone (several someones) was laughing in the middle distance. Someone else was moaning in pain.

You reached a crossroads and saw a crowd of armed men. Some of them were holding a woman down. Bandits!

Abelard snarled and touched spurs to his horse. He leveled his lance and trotted forward.

Toshiro followed. Herger and Meridius followed on foot.

"What are you waiting for?" Montoya said. "Charge!"

(You are six against twenty-three.)

I step back away from the horses, getting out a multitool and holding my thumb on the knife, ready to flip out.

I'd like to jump in when the game starts rolling again, please.

These stories typically have an untrustworthy character, so I'll be the snake in the grass. I'll be a bankrobber. Do you want another male or another female character more? If male, I'll be a gunslinger type from the Old West like Jesse James. If female, I'll be a mobster-moll type from the Prohibition Era like Bonnie Parker.

The theme is "pre-gunpowder", more or less. You can take over the Roman or introduce a new character.

In that case, I am thinking an Aztec or Mongol warrior.

Mongol soldiers were known for their archery and horseback skills. Since the other PCs have that covered, I am going with an Aztec. He will be Jaguar Warrior capable of either holding a line on an open battlefield or sneaky ranger tactics in a jungle but not the best at either. He was born Mayan but trained from childhood to serve the Aztec priest-kings as a fighting slave.
