I've been selling my comic, Midwinter in 40 page issues since 2013. I print them locally; the cost of production ends up at around $3.30 and I sell them for $5, so there's not a lot of profit honestly. But, we keep it like that because it's more important for us to get the content in the reader's hands. Especially because people are a lot more willing to drop five bucks to try something instead of committing to a $15+ book. Once we get enough content for a full volume, we plan to retire all the issues except the first one. That way, we can continue to appeal to the people who make impulse buys.
I typically get a much larger run than what's been said in this thread (around 250) but your numbers will definitely depend on your marketing.
If this event is local, make posters and stick them anywhere your target market frequents. Personally I print about 10 and go to comic shops, art supply stores, and colleges. Of course, always ask permission before you hang it up. It helps to know someone there.
I also always ask the event organizer if I can hang posters during the event. It helps tremendously--even if a person isn't interested right away, walking by it enough may convince them to check us out in the vendors hall. I've gotten a lot of traffic this way.
Push it on social media, too. Make an event out of it. Get excited! Share some art, talk about what you'll be offering. If there's an FB group for the event, ask if you can put up a post about your booth. Remind your followers of your presence there a couple weeks in advance, a day or two before, and finally at the actual event. The point is to keep your property in front of them!
Doing that and constructing a decent display really propelled our numbers. Our first con, we sold 67 books, and next year at the same one we doubled our sales. Plus, word of mouth will travel fast if you have a good product and stay friendly.
