It's funny how I enjoy writing romance, but it's a genre I'm the not likely to seek out when I consume mainstream media. Guess I just enjoy writing the kind of love stories I personally want to see.
I suppose for my currently publishing romances, they have the couples being physical first and developing feelings/cultivating a loving relationship after. Which is something not normally done in a lot of stories.
For Heavy Horns specifically, some other "twists" include: The two men are more masculine in appearance, one with pronounced body hair and both having facial hair at some point in the story. There's an important subplot of the lead coming to terms with his bodily abnormality (he has bull horns), so he has a sort of self-discovery arc but it has nothing to do with his sexuality.
For Secunda specifically, the other "twists" include: It's like beauty and the beast, but very few men are after this beauty (she's got a pretty bad scar she can't hide) and this beast doesn't magically transform into a human at the end. The main 'love interest' is a monster, not a vampire or werewolf, but an amorphous fog attached to a skull that can change his body shape at will. The heroine is fairly comfortable with her sexuality, and no one shames her for it. She is involved with two much older men, but all the actions she takes with them are of her own volition and they don't manipulate her for any physical gratification.
