Hi

I don't know if you call it a twist
But i'm writing a paranormal romance (lot's of people would refer to it as werewolf, but... idk, i don't like the term as it's inaccurate imo xD sorry about that)
But regarding that genre I did some twists. Like no destined mates, the overall of the story is going against ancient traditions. All with a romance background.

I'll link it up, maybe you'd like to give it a shot:

I'm definitely checking out yours

I'm just here to say that I saw "Romances with a twist!" and my first thought was kinky stuff.

I wish I was good at writing romance. Then I'd try my hand at it. But I'd probably just end up with some kinky smut or something.

It's funny how I enjoy writing romance, but it's a genre I'm the not likely to seek out when I consume mainstream media. Guess I just enjoy writing the kind of love stories I personally want to see.

I suppose for my currently publishing romances, they have the couples being physical first and developing feelings/cultivating a loving relationship after. Which is something not normally done in a lot of stories.

For Heavy Horns specifically, some other "twists" include: The two men are more masculine in appearance, one with pronounced body hair and both having facial hair at some point in the story. There's an important subplot of the lead coming to terms with his bodily abnormality (he has bull horns), so he has a sort of self-discovery arc but it has nothing to do with his sexuality.

For Secunda specifically, the other "twists" include: It's like beauty and the beast, but very few men are after this beauty (she's got a pretty bad scar she can't hide) and this beast doesn't magically transform into a human at the end. The main 'love interest' is a monster, not a vampire or werewolf, but an amorphous fog attached to a skull that can change his body shape at will. The heroine is fairly comfortable with her sexuality, and no one shames her for it. She is involved with two much older men, but all the actions she takes with them are of her own volition and they don't manipulate her for any physical gratification.

So my romance story is cliche as hecc, which is why I'm not including it here, but I absolutely binged the hell out of stupidly beautiful1. It plays on gender roles, is filled with awesome twists and drama, is very realistic and if you read volume 2 too, it includes a polyamorous relationship, which you don't see all that often. Definetly a must read! It deserves all the love in the world. (It's very 18+ though, lots of smut, so if you're not into reading that, I totally understand.)

Oh, I also highly recommend liebesbrief if you're into comics more. It's a romance, but heavily pays attention to its setting of world war two and the traumas and heartships that that timeperiod brings with it.

my favorite romances are about "imperfect" or "ugly/normal features" couples, could be a bad personality or appearance haha, I usually want to relate with the characters a little bit, I mean no one is perfect in real life.
I try to use my husband as my inspiration for writing romance, I love him just the way he is and he doesn't need to change to make me like him. I think those are the best couples, those who can you relate in your life and you've know they want to be together for life !

Heavy Horns is my FAVORITE and I've been following since the beginning. Yall, please check it out.

I'm writing a romance myself write now! When it comes to new elements, I like to think the main things are probably that Jade, the girl, is dead. That, and the pairing starts the story already together, and the story is primarily about following them on their journey through America and the misadventures they have due to them both being kind of stone-dumb. It's mostly about building these characters together, even though they already love each other and are open about it.

This thread's shown me some nice romance stories to read later... I like this.

if you're feeling spooky my side plot for my horror novel is a slow burn love story between a reanimated corpse and a (kinda) human author. Like it is seriously a slow burn, it will take the sequel to get into the feelings but its an unconventional romance!

I also do not seek romance, but I like to write it. I guess I'm so egotistical I can only enjoy my own ships lmao! I don't have an explicit romance comic. Mine is more comedy slice of life, but romance is definitely a huge part of it as well. Just that it doesn't become obvious until many chapters in. I've already started exploring the main character's past in chapter 2 and will introduce a girl he loved within a few more weeks.

I don't want to give away too much, but suffice to say it will not be your typical vampire love story. My goal was to sort of parody the paranormal romance genre.

I'm currently writing a comic with my girls if you're interested! Their town has...a bit of a monster problem, and their dynamic is tested when an "ordinary" night of hunting one down gets out of hand.

Their introduction takes place 9 years before the story (pre-relationship and before any supernatural goings-on), and I'm pretty excited to explore what changed, what stayed the same, and what happened in-between.

i know im judging the book but the cover here but i find it hilarious that a comic about falling in love with an older person is titled "inheritance". that's so sinister lmao!

Drops in

Mine is a slow burn and there will be mini romances for plot purposes but once the final ship sails :heart_eyes::heart_eyes: it’ll come with its obstacles and there’s a bunch o drama so it’s far from typical. If you want some fantasy, some secrets that come back to haunt some characters, betrayal, loss, and finding your true self you may like reading about my boys

Okay so mine's a bit out there to say the least, especially since my predominant genre is horror. This is definitely going to be a roller coaster so strap in, I guess. :roller_coaster:

The main romance in the comic is between an alien Dog-Ferret hybrid and an alien Fox-Raccoon hybrid. (And that's honestly not even the weirdest part.)

The Dog-Ferret, a drunken vegan who lives in the literal wilderness, is on a search-and-rescue mission with his daughter (a fire-breathing human) to find his missing queen. The Fox-Raccoon hybrid, on the other hand, is an obligate carnivore and a very classy little lady who resides in a castle. And uh, she's the one who kidnapped the queen? So she decides that she's gonna join the aforementioned search-and-rescue party to gain insight and also sabotage their search. But she accidentally falls head over heels for the Dog-Ferret in the process.

And since she's a cannibal who feasts on unsuspecting males of her kind, she really can't decide whether she wants to love him or eat him. And now the Dog-Ferret has also fallen in love with her because she subconsciously reminds him of his deceased partner.

There's a lot of other crazy stuff going on there, too, like the fact that the Fox-Raccoon's uncle murdered the Dog-Ferret's father, or the fact that the Dog-Ferret's queen murdered the Fox-Raccoon's father. But enough of that, I've rambled enough. Have some cute doodles:

My story A Devil's Dirge is a slow burn fantasy-romance. Rather odd pairing too.
