here are some narrative comics w relatively simple art:

but my favourite examples come from graphic novels

tom gauld's goliath:

and recent booker prize nominee, nick drnaso's sabrina

both of these are great examples of using simplistic / minimalist art styles to enhance the narrative - feeling even more isolated because of it, and allowing even more interpretation of emotion and action

Boumeries is a journal webcomic about a mom, her husband, and kids. It's uber sweet and funny and I always read it when I want to smile

(oh wait you already put Cyanide and Happiness)

Fauna has some really nice, simplistic art

This one's pretty funny

omg. This series is so DANG charming and funny.. I can't get enough of it. It's so amazing.

I don't know if it's appropriate to show off my own comics in this thread, but here they are. Enjoy!

Edible Green Tea: A semi-autobiographical absurdist satire comic with an art-style inspired by Cartoon Network shows old and new along with retro anime like Astro Boy and Doraemon.

Pup Culture: A series of one-panel cartoons focusing the Yvonne's dog with puns related to dogs and dog-related subject matter.

Oh man so I keep having discussions about Poorly Drawn Lines which despite it's name is very meticulously designed --> www.poorlydrawnlines.com26

Also Anthony Clark makes Nedroid Picture Diary7 which is excellent, he also does art for BACK3 which is a bit more complex but very clean and good.

Kate Beaton's stuff13 captures really excellent mood with a few pen strokes. She bashes her art sometimes because the style is simple and kind of messy, but honestly it's so effective and charming.

(Also my comic17 I guess)

You got a lot of options here, and I will put my hat in the ring ( I don't wear hats), my comic is simple art

Here's some of my favs

4 months later

I have a little gag comic with a very simplified art style... I barely update it anymore but everything is super cartoony and soft.

I think mine is pretty simple and cute. Check it out if you want.
