So I was looking back at some of the pages from the first chapter of our comic and was blown away by how much we have improved in such a short time. Who would have thought that drawing constantly would actually help improve your work!?

Joking aside, I was both really happy to see the results, but of course kicking myself at how inferior I find some of the art now. I suppose that just happens. Either way, I wanted to show off the improvement and see what improvement everyone else has made too!

Now this first part wasn't actually found in the comic itself, but takes place in the same world and more or less would be what the first chapter would have looked like had it started up in a village rather than a temple.

And this here is from the most recent page I've lined. As such it isn't colored yet, but I'm mostly talking about the linework and cinematography.

Needless to say, it made me very happy to see such progress in between then and now.

Oh my, how I feel you! I've improved so much in the last year (composition, colors, body language of the characters, pacing of the story...) that now I'm ashamed to suggest people to read the comic from the start. I want them to get to the good part already!

Hmmm, I feel like I come a long way since my first pages to my recent ones. Proportions have improved, I've found easier and quicker ways to draw things, my characters now have hair that isn't just a couple strands here and there, backgrounds have been completely overhauled, switched from B&W to Color recently, etc. etc.

I think my coloring has improved and overall page layout.

Issue 1
My gutters are skinny and my ppl are not colored in...

Issue 2
I'm more happy with my gutter size and overall page presentation. I'm also playing more with contrast (tho this is an interior page vs the above which is ext and day time)

Issue 3
Things are finally coming together! I'm playing more with gray tones and coloring the skin tones and clothes. I'm enjoying where I ended up and feel that I leveled up in this issue.

i think my color quality has gotten a lot better since i switched to clip studio paint. i almost want to include a disclaimer that the art turns out way better because honest to god its starting to get hard to look at (so many wonky panels aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah)

Obviously there are similarities between the two, but I think I've made great leaps in learning how to draw backgrounds, more sensible anatomy, and just visual balance/contrast in general.

Its not a page but I'm going on a short break to focus on my finals so I decided to post a little shading/coloring test I was working on. I feel like it comes together much better and has better contrast than my previous pages. I'm not that happy with the facial proportions but I decided to leave it like it was since I ran out of time.

My comic Those Called Wolf is only in its 3rd month of being active. However, since starting my comic, I have seen an improvement in most of everything from paneling, writing, and color.

Here is one of the first few pages of my comic (Posted Sep. 21). While I think it looks okay, I feel that the skin color is bland, the paneling could be better, and the writing is cringy and too predictable. Most of all, the woman in this page looks too "stiff" - her pose doesn't give her much life.

This page is from Nov. 11th. I really liked the paneling in this page. At some point in working with my comic, I realized that I could use diagonal lines for panels too, and I think this page flowed more because of that addition. The skin color has more red in it, which makes the people not look so dead, and the poses at the bottom half of the page really makes these two look more lively.

I didn't notice the improvement myself until I finished, but it's kinda gratifying to look back and realize I really have learned something in a year's worth of drawing. Below is a comparison between page 2 and page 96.

Page 2: still getting the hang of Clip Studio, still trying to get out of the default mindset that sketchy = better, didn't care too much about cleaning up lines, just wanted to prove I could draw perspective.

Page 96: more attentive to clean lineart, more familiar with tools in clip studio and more willing to add a gradient to everything. Compared to page 2, the close-up panel is clearly smoother and more carefully shaded, and the action panel is cleaner and more dynamic.

gawd, I've improved over the course of writing this comic, to the point where I've been sneaking back to pages that haven't been updated yet and re-doing them!

New (unfinished) version on the left - I got better at drawing buildings in such a short space of time that I felt I really had to go back and re-do this shot.

page 2 on the left, and page 19 or something on the right - much better at colouring, poses, dynamics, etc. It's a pretty positive feeling to actually see a visible improvement on your work, huh?

OH the difference I've made as I have worked on Flirting With Death...

Early page:
The poses are pretty lame. Anatomy is good, but there are some slip-ups.
The lineart wasn't ugly, but I didn't like it and it made creating pages frustrating. There was just no flow in my lines. Facial expressions are good - they give the realism I want but at the same time many panels lack implication of background, when it should only be facial expression ones. That's just laziness.

Later pages:
Not the latest bc that one has full on nudity in it.
Coloring and lighting are way more attentive and effective, lineart is more distinct and flowing... The colours look great compared to older stuff and anatomy is the best it's ever been for me.

The first issue just finished and I'm working hard on the second!
