And it seems more demanding than Tapastic. What I mean is, people on Tapastic can get away with uploading a page or two or five etc. However on Webtoons, most people, if not all upload at least 20-22 pages per update.

If I try uploading like, five to ten pages, well people be less interested? Is there a rule to minim amount of pages that everyone must abide to?

A while ago I started mirroring my comics to webtoon too.
I started with uploading two pages every two days. That got me an okay ish attention and nobody was upset because of the two pagers (probably because of the narrow update-shedule)

Now with some subscribers but without a proper buffer I changed the upload rhytmn.
Here on Tapas I upload one page a week and there four pages every month.... Nobody complained yet.

There's not a mim amount of pages to post if you're not a featured artist and posting stuff for free. It's just that readers over there tend to like complete scenes in their updates. They seem to be ok waiting for full episodes as well.

You can post a page at a time however just know you might get the occasional, "It's too short" comment. If you don't let it bug you than it's alright really.

Based from what I see on webtoons, if you are still on challenge section, most people will be ok with not many pages or even slow updates because well, maybe because not many people on challenge section.

But as soon as you are on official...

Prepared for comments like : 'If you didn't serious about being a comic maker then don't!' 'why are the pages is getting shorter?' 'we need more update!'

Try The Gamer, it's a popular webtoon and one of my fav but lately the page is getting shorter and shorter and as expected, a lot people complains 'why is the page getting shorter?' even if there is already a kind fans that explain that The Gamer is originally from Korean and the author have taking hiatus before because of their health so originally, the English translation have almost catch up to the Korean one.

Well, so my points is : Most webtoons have been translated from Korean to English which is why, they usually have a long pages and also a regular update and that makes most people who read webtoons is so used to longer pages and regular update [and well, if you are official you are getting paid there's also that] so yeah, prepared for 'shoooort' comments if you can't make longer pages.

But webtoons isn't that bad, the comments 'If you didn't serious about being a comic maker then don't!' is from one of webtoons from my own country so even if I link it here you won't understand the language anyway lol but well, this particular webtoons have picked from challenge into official and well, even if you do get paid for making webcomic, stuff do happens which is why this webcomic have taking some break hence why the awful comments. But there is also user that defend the author by explain that author is human too they might have situation where they can't draw.

So yeah, for every bad user, there is always a good one.

So well, try webtoons, it will be good for your experience.

Maybe daft question but what is the difference between being in the challenge section and official? It doesn't seem clear at the moment?

Official/"featured" - You CANNOT post your comic here unless you've signed a contract with Webtoons. Webtoons pays the creators to make these comics. Each creator in this section signs a contract to publish a specific series every week, and there is a minimum length requirement (so they can't just post half a page and get away with it). They are normally not allowed to publish that same series elsewhere; in exchange for the salary, they have to keep it exclusive. Exceptions may exist.

Challenge - Anyone can upload their own comic here. You do not get paid by Webtoons unless they're doing a special event that pays out (like their Patreon pledge event, which is a limited time thing). No minimum length requirement. You are free to publish the same comic elsewhere.

Yes webtoon users can seem to be really demanding, I feel most likely because they are spoiled by the Featured comic on there and believe it or not, a lot of audience still do not know the difference between Featured section and Discover section. While they are demanding, there are still a lot of reasonable individual. They do not mind waiting a tad longer for you to update a longer episode rather than 1 page per update, and that is what I prefer about Webtoon over Tapastic. (You don't get a lot less exposure on the Fresh section with other comic constantly update every second, immediately push you out of the Fresh's front page)

For the matter about Featured section, I can understand why people would complain if your page is getting shorter. They actually have a legit reason to complain, you are a featured artist, you are actually getting paid, this is basically your job! Although funny enough even in Discover section sometimes I still come across comment like that. I once even got a comment telling me to put my comic on hiatus if I can't dedicate all my time and take the job seriously. (It's not even my job though...? LMFAO it's like they couldn't tell the difference between us normal peps and the featured artists)

If you're comic is not featured then it is okay to post page by page updates, however, a lot of readers on there don't like it much. I post at least 3 pages minimum but that's the best I can do and my readers understand that completely. Before episode one, I have a warning that says I don't put up with the "Too short or I want color" bullshit and so far it's kept those types of people out...or quiet.

To be fair, just like with any other thing, most people on webtoons are nice people. That being said, they do have more rotten eggs than tapastic does. Or at least they are more vocal. Just today someone complained about 3 pages being too short of an update (they wanted me to wait until i could upload the whole 41 page chapter in a single go.), and someone defended me. The person who had complained then responded by... and hear this... telling the other person to GO KILL THEMSELVES. What the fuck.

I also started on webtoons a few months ago.
So I already had lots of pages to upload,but as soon as I got up to date with the latest pages on tapas it slowed down, obviously.
People prefered weekly updates, so I started to put lesser pages in an episode (like the amount I got done in the week). And so... I also started to get the "why so short" comments xD

On one side I do like it since it gives me the feel people are reaaly interested and want to read more.
On the other side I'm like.... A page takes like 6-7 hours to make, I'm not a full time artist x.x I wish I was but I do have a job, I need to eat and pay the rent xD And I'm already putting most of my free time in my comic.
But really, I don't mind these comments :3 people on webtoon are nice too.

LMFAO you will get used to it, and they will also get used to it. They really are just being a tad greedy and since they are used to being spoilt rotten by the featured comic who updates weekly with a fairly large amount of panel each time, they just expect the same thing from us non-featured comic artists too! I think I have come to a length where people who complain "Why so short" will followed after that saying "I know it's actually not short at all but darn I want more".

I used to have people complaining why I have such short update back when I was updating weekly, so I switch to bi-weekly and aiming for a longer update each time, the length is comfortable now, but then I have people who complain they have to wait for too long to get an update!

So in short, you can't please them all, may as well ignore LMFAO they will stop eventually.

I dunno in my case comics are the only job I have but my opinion is this: I work my ass off 10-12 hours a day to push out 5-7 pages a week on all my three comics (17 pages total of which 5 are colored), and they can sit around and read it for free. If someone wants to read more in one go, they can easily wait 1 month to get those 30 pages in one go and read it then regardless of how i update, but if someone wants more frequent updates and doesn't care if they're short, they're screwed if i do what the "GIVE LONG UPDATE PLZ WHY SO LITTLE PANEL WHY NOT WHOLE CHAPTER" guy says. Also it is better for me, statistics-wise, to update once or twice a week rather than once a month.

This all boils down to: i update often, it's my comic, i work my ass off and deserve to do whatever the hell i please with it when it's done.

And like you said, can't please everyone anyway. So may as well go your own way and look fabulously confident doing it.

it's really not about you, it's about them
they have nothing better to do in their lives, so they go complain on the internet when a free webtoon they read isn't long enough to fill in the big gap in their stupid lives
best way to deal with troll is to ignore them, because it's about them, not about you,
once you give them any kind of response, you'll give them some sort of satisfaction, nothing good will come out of it, imo
like having a stink contest with a skunk

and like you said, you're working your ass off to give them something for free, you sure as heck deserve to do whatever the hell you please with it when it's done

I used to have "to short" comments when I was publishing my first chapter because I had only 3 pages per update (once a week), so for chapter 2 I uploaded 5 pages once a month and those kind of comments stopped.
Even if some people would have preferred more regular updates, they were glad the updates were longer. And now for my 3rd chapter I update 4 pages once every two weeks and I didn't have any bad comment so far. I think you should adapt the time between your update to publish more content at once without working too hard.
