It's really not straight-up tragic songs that get me, but psychedelic and even bright songs...stuff that reminds me of bygone or impossibly-good things, or songs with transcendent themes. (And sometimes vaporwave gets me that way.)

I just heard "In A Station" by The Band for the first time in a while and it hit me really hard. It wasn't even related to anything hard in my life in particular. It's just something about hearing what I could describe as "a one-way conversation with God" that's both heartbreaking and reassuring.

What are the songs (or types of songs) that make you :cry_02: cry? :crying_cat_face:

Not many songs make me literally cry but a lot of songs hit me in the feels. I really like the song "Remember When It Rained" by Josh Groban. It's incredibly moving and carries images of lost love. I also love the music video for "Ghost of You" by My Chemical Romance. The music video is a work of art. It's brilliant. Every time I listen to the song, I can picture the heartbreak of a young solider watching his little brother die in front of him in combat.

This one gets me every time

But also, Cowgirls don't cry by Brooks and Dunn, That's my job by Conway Twitty, Don't take the girl by Tim Mcgraw, Travelin Soldier by the Dixie Chicks, If you're reading this by Tim Mcgraw... And I could go on all day lol
Edit - Forgot 'Sing me back home by Merle Haggard' No sad song list is complete without it!

This song always makes me cry because it reminds me of all my loved ones who have passed away.

The lines that hit me most are these:

Why'd you have to leave me when I needed you the most?
'Cause I don't really know how to tell ya, I'm feeling much worse
I know you're in a better place but it's always going to hurt

The Darkness by Nathan Wagner,

It's actually 5 songs that comes together to tell a story. There is different ways you can interpret these songs if you listen to them separately, but I recommend that you listen to them together 1st.

Song/Part 1 Victoria: A man who's trying to stop his best friend from committing suicide. But he fails before the song is over. (At the end if you listen closely you can actually hear her falling.)

Song/Part 2 Silence: He can't accept the fact that she's gone so he begins to hallucinate as if she never left. Pleading desperately for her to talk to him.

Song/Part 3 Blackout: He starts his journey into becoming an alcoholic. He's blinded by the brief moments of happiness that alcohol gives him. Eventually this leads him into doing drugs as well. (This is hinted at, at the end of the song.) He's just trying to do anything to forget his whole existence.

Song/Part 4 Deception: The alcohol has almost completely taken over his life. He's aware that he needs to change, but the alcohol and drugs is just so addictive. But he finally wakes up after seeing a man die from an overdose. Afterwards he starts to hear voices. Not the voices of his friend, but the voice of God guiding him onto a new path. At the end of the song he finally obtains the strength to break the cycle of abuse before he reaches the point of no return.

Song/Part 5 Light: The first half of the song is through God's point of view. He's reaching out his hand to help this lost soul. Telling him that things will get better because I'm by your side. The second half is through the man's point of view. He finally accepts that his friend is never coming back. He will follow the words of God, so he can become a better man. This way he can live life to the fullest for both him and his friend. (This is my favorite song of all time)

This song. It is a bittersweet ballad that played during the credits of Land Before Time. It's hopeful but in a sad way and it also makes me nostalgic, so that is why it makes me sad.

And for something more obscure.
This song is pretty ominous for something paired up with Peter Rabbit. I think the reason is hits me pretty hard is it reminds me of someone I knew as a child who died when they were a teen. She showed me one of these tapes and we had an inside joke involving Jeremy Fisher.

Why did you mention the Land Before Time? :cry_02: :cry_02: :cry_02: I'm not crying, you're crying.

Now i have to break everyone's heart with this.:broken_heart:

@allenT The fox and the hound is cute and heartwarming, but it's also pretty sad, it breaks my heart every time I watch it. My sibling and I were going to rewatch it since we haven't seen it in forever and my sibling says "No, that ones too sad." Love that movie though. Tissues, I need tissues T^T

A fan of Blind Guardian is a friend of mine!!

Speaking of Blind Guardian tear-jerkers:

Johnny Cash: "Hurt"

Originally a Nine Inch Nails song about Trent's addictions, transforms to a man at the end of life reflecting on all that he's lost. Lie Down. Try Not to Cry. Cry a Lot.

"Gentle on My Mind" (also a Johnny Cash cover)

About a Hobo reflecting on the woman he is/was in love with.

"You Want It Darker" Leonard Cohen

I have no words for this song. This is less sobbing tears, more that feeling of being empty and done.

Yeah, I have a few. Hear me out but Miley Cyrus "Bottom of the Ocean" brings me to tears. I can't even listen to it anymore. Don't want to talk about it in depth but I lost a friend in middle school and the song reminded me of her. (I don't mean "lost" I mean lost. She's not with us anymore.) ...I know it's a pop song but I was super into the album during this time.

Also, Dido's "Northern Skies" is a lovely song but it also just feels so desolate and empty.

You want a good cry? Here, have this whole album

I strongly recommend listening to the whole thing for maximum sadness (if not, at least listen to the last 3 songs). it's been years since i discovered this album but that last track still gives me such chills ugh
