I sent in my application yesterday I have been waiting for something like this for months now I am a writer but I have artists that are more than happy to work full time on my projects and having an editor and other creators around to assist in feedback would be amazing. I dedicate almost all my free time to comics. I have wanted to be a full time comic creator since I started more than 3 years ago.

Good luck to all who applied and I hope this program kicks off with success!

Wow, this is honestly such an amazing opportunity .3. One I've especially been looking forward to. Unfortunately, it's about a year too early unu

Hopefully it goes well, and you do it all again next year! o3o

Not sure if it was mentioned here, but can we submit story ideas already being posted on Tapas? I started my most developed story but I haven't made it all the way through the prologue.

Also, can we submit multiple original stories? I've written a few comics but haven't started drawing them yet.

Hi lefrafra,

We'd really prefer original stories that aren't published yet, but since your story sounds relatively new, I don't think it would hurt to send it in. You can absolutely submit multiple ideas, just keep them all in a single email!

I might have missed the answer, but I'll go ahead and ask anyways xD
I'm not from the USA, what about me :frowning: do I get no love? v_v
I'm pretty sure this is for citizens only but whatevs

Hi @Exelcius ! It seems like you can still apply if you're outside of the USA but you will need to work remotely (not in-house). Hope that helps!

AAAAH, this sounds amazing. I definitely don't have time to work on another series though. Will this still be going on in years to come?

Sorry, I'm still really confused here. I wanted to do this when I first heard about this but the moving to Cali bit stopped me cause I live in Canada. Now it says it's optional but I still don't understand. How does this affect those living outside the US, cause I want to join this, it seems fun, but the guidelines are very confusing.

EDIT: Also now it looks like it'll be too late for me to join this :(:disappointed:

@mileshonor They did mention that they are hoping that it will still be around in the next few years. So definitely keep an eye out!

@megaanimefreak7 @michaelciotta This opportunity is for creating a brand new comic with the Tapastic editorial team. They'll help you with editing and polishing up your comic throughout the 3-6 month timeline. That does NOT require you to be at the physical location of their headquarters. It helps, but is absolutely not required. That is why it is optional. The deadline is September 9 at 11:59pm (PST) so you still have some time!

So is it a comic that the creator and Tapas will create together from the start? Will tapas become the creator's editor?
I have a manga but I'm already working with an editor/publisher, so I guess can't apply for that reason? It's also adapted for tankōbons and will be printed in screen tones. It's a little sad that you only allow colored comics and the vertical-scroll format. There's such a variety of comics out there, but I understand that the reader easily falls in love with colors. And if they can read the comic comfortably on their phone, well, sold. It works for webcomics/webtoons. (1/2)

I can see this development on so many webcomic platforms. Coloured comics in vertical scroll format are highlighted on the front pages, leaving other types of comics in some gray zone (lol gray zone). Sometimes I ask myself if my comics would get more recognition if I changed the format? Then again I love manga and ends up working with my preferred format. However, I think many comic artists can relate to this, that they are feeling more and more that they don't belong on these platforms unless their comics aren't in colours or in vertical scroll. @Toffuo

There are 3 choices: 1) you pitch your own story to Tapas that has been unpublished, 2) you collaborate with the Tapas editorial team to create a unique story (you must showcase good artistic skills), or 3) you apply to bring a premium novel to life with your art skills.

It's a little sad that you only allow colored comics and the vertical-scroll format.

I know they mentioned that if this first series is successful, they will host more in the future. There may be a possibility of adapting other forms of comics/graphic novels.

Tapas has promoted many grayscale comics and there are grayscale premium comics.
They do, however, prefer formats that are easy to read on mobile since that is where more than half of their traffic is going on.
What's readable on mobile is often possible to read on desktop.
The same doesn't go the other way. Text may appear too small, or images too crammed, on mobile. You may not feel this way, but trends indicate a large enough majority of readers do.
I'm saying this as someone who has several ongoing comics in traditional manga layout format. Only one of my comics is vertical scroll.

I agree that Tapas is one of the better platforms that highlights the diversity of comics (it's one of the reasons why it's my favorite platform), but it still doesn't change the fact that they asked for colored comics in vertical scroll format for the Creator Incubator. Hopefully, as Woobv said, there may be a possibility of other forms of comics/graphic novels for this section in the future (Sorry for bad English, also this is my first time using the Forum and I'm trying to learn all the settings haha)

(EDIT: There are a lot of book format webcomics out there that are mobile friendly as well)

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone for their submissions - we've been getting a massive amount of submissions over the long weekend and am very excited to dive in and read them all.

I wanted to remind everyone that we will be closing submissions on September 9th, those that are submitted after the deadline won't be counted towards the first Tapas Creator Incubator Program so be sure to get your submission(s) in before then!

I have a question. If we already submitted an email with an original idea and pitch, but have another story that we want to submit also can we? I originally submitted before a lot of the newer information and details came out. But also understand you guys already have a lot of comics to look through, and can always save my other idea for another time.

Thank you!

Yes, we are organizing submissions based on titles and grouping them by creator(s), so if you have multiple submissions please feel free to send more than one e-mail.
