When the rules say that each episode/chapter has to be at least 500 words, is it talking about the word count in the tapastic publishing section?

I think it has to be at least 500 words in the Word program or where else you're writing the story because the publishing section go by character count not word count. So far, the episodes I'm posting have been about 500+ words in Office but 4,000+ to 5,000 characters in Tapas. My recent post was 1,418 words in Word but 7,758 characters in Tapas.

Hope that helps.

It does! I'm just not sure, the reason why i'm asking is because I want to put up a prologue, but it's only 93 words...So if I put that up it won't officially count as one of the ten episodes....I'm really hoping that is not against the rules

My guess would be that a prologue would be alright, as long as you still upload ten other episodes of 500+ words!

If ever chosen, what's the minimum word count? Like short stories are good?

Hello @serena I'm not a native speaker and I already wrote a novel in my mother language. Can I translate it to English and submit the work to the contest?

Thanks!

@serena I need to ask you about the placement of the '#firstwriterscamp' tag.
Does we need to put the (#) before the firstwriterscamp or not? Since when I tried to search it (both with [#] and didn't), the two didn't shows some stories from the one with (#) and vice versa.

It seems the contest starts today so good luck everyone!!

@GoldenPlume You're right, it's something we should have been more clear about in the contest rules. Since this is our first Writers Camp, we're still working out the kinks. This may be a rule we change in the future, but at least for this first contest, the novel being original and not an adaptation of a work in another medium is going to be a requirement.

@Harmony-S-S You're free to post a prologue, so long as, like @Chroma said, you make sure you're fulfilling all the other requirements as well!

@InZanity We are looking for submissions that are either novels or novels in progress.

@reik So long as that novel hasn't been published previously, you can definitely submit an English-language version!

@silverraven0 I talked to the team and it looks like our search system currently does not support the use of hashtags, so it only shows the first page of results. When you tag your series, use "firstwriterscamp" instead of "#firstwriterscamp" to make sure it shows up in search results.

hello, i am trying to participate in the contest, however i always failed in updating the tag. after i put the tag and save it, the tag just disappears. therefore i cannot put the FirstWritersCamp tag. any suggestion on how to overcome this issue?

The minimum word count is 5000 words divided into 10 or more chapters of 500 words or more each. A short novel is frequently defined as 50,000 words, so 5000 is possibly shorter than you think.

I don't know what you tried, but this is how I update tags.

Dashboard
Edit
select the specific chapter to edit
add a tag at the bottom of the page
Save the chapter at the top of the page

I had this problem too, I think it was because I was using a comma and not hitting Enter after I wrote each tag.

Try pasting or writing in the tag again and hit Enter. If it shows up in a blue box below the input field, click Save. Did it stay after that?

THANK YOU! i didn't realized i was separating it with spacebar instead of pressing enter. my bad

thank you, that works as well. but i was not pressing enter earlier and pressed spacebar instead

Hello everyone! Here is my entry for the FirstWritersCamp!

Synopsis-

Zane used to have it all. A supportive family, a good career, a pretty fiancée. That is, until he was hit one day by an oncoming car. Six months later, Zane wakes up from his coma, paralyzed from the waist down. Losing everything he once thought dear, his soul begins to spiral downward into depression and disarray.

However, Zane's life is given new meaning when he is aided by a girl who is both mute and partially deaf. Totally unafraid of the world, she faces not only scoffers, but also all of life's challenges head on. Drawn to her strength and somewhat unusual view of the world, Zane may find that there's still so much left to live for.

The collection addition is awesome!! Just a heads up that some stories that were posted last year are also appearing in it though I'm not sure if that's normal. :scream: Good luck to everyone!!:grin:
