I wished I could believe that, it would give me hope for tumblr if that was the reason. Thought I feel, from what I've seen at least, it is probably not the case -.-

also yay!! for disney being disney and for horrible business and marketing practises *I'm being sarcastic for those who are denser than a black hole

I was curious about the whole Disney trying to buy a holiday and found this.

And just to be sure it wasn`t a CNN thing, i searched if other news spoke about it.

Yes and no, Games Workshop can trademark it's "space marine" but not all space marines. Apple computers once successfully trademarked specific colors in the context of those colors in computer cases.

Commercialism at its finest.
At this rate, companies can own Christmas. Heck, why hasn't the Vatican done so yet?
Like, per se, Warner Bros can trademark Christmas trees, Disney can trademark the gifts, etc., etc.
With this whole emphasis on "mine, mine, mine", no wonder we're all in decline.

@Aspie_Gamer It's all just entitlement. Whether entitlement to their own opinions, or to themselves, this is going to create problems.
Pride. Biggest problem of this Earth.

So true.

A big problem is that people mistake pride with dignity. And that causes all those ego wars when it comes to debating. Debating can be good if the goal is to search the truth and understanding. But when is just "i will prove that guy wrong", that is the point it devolves. Most people are not seeking the truth, they are only interested in owning it.(now that i think about it, that may be an interesting plot point for a story)

You might be thinking about copyrights. Copyright means ownership of intellectual properties. Trademarks are merely about marketing.

@DiegoPalacios go for it, man!
something where truth becomes a currency, and the protagonist learns that you don't need to have all the truths.
"sometimes a subtle lie is better than the cold truth."

@Zaboem It's pretty much the same thing. You copyright something, you want that property to be exclusively yours. Trademarks, you label something that links it to you.
Tools for the cash-grab, and the cash-grab to get more things that will be yours.
Rinse and repeat.

No, they are really not the same thing at all. Don't take my word for it. Read up on it yourself.

oh lol, i shoulda figured that (i was earwigging anyway, i werent being catty if thats what it sounded like)

Their was a theory made by a christian person that I read once, and the main Idea was such:
their are no Multiple sins.Their is only one sin. All other perceived sins can be traced back to this one great sin. All evil acts are motivated by this sin. The Great sin of all humanity, the sin that made us fall from Eden and brings the devil closer is our own misguided Pride.

it was an interest read =D

Can you please stop using the forums to gossip about and harass other users. You have all the right to dislike Shen's work but take that shit somewhere else.

I don't think they were doing that?
It looks more like they're calling out the call-out post. Not the creator that's being attacked by said post. I mean, yeah, it could be worded more differently, and I can see where it looks like gossiping. But I saw it more as "this person shouldn't have to apologize to people like this"

@Aspie_Gamer
in the future try censoring all the offending names names (Ian and shen) they may be well known but just in case ok :wink:

@NickRowler
=/ from what he said I wouldn't call it harassment. more like he's pissed that someone has to apologise for doing absolutely nothing

harassment is more telling us to go and pester another user or actively attacking the user. But eh in the new age of PC culture I have no idea what harassment is.

The twitter user he was being chummy with has a history of posting very political stuff that is very bigoted. I can sort of understand Freddie Freakie's creator frustration. Anyways, I also think Aspie Gamer should not have been writing shit about that person either. It doesn't matter if you black out the name, he still showed their comic.

you can be frustrated about bigger creators
but using it to promote your own work while tarnishing their reputation?

"while this gets traction, if you don't want to read a webcomic that's not by a mediocre white guy who rubs up with bigots, check out mine? "

a bit much/fishy don't you think?

agreed, bitch but don't say names and comics please >:0

Yeah, I have to agreed on that. Like, if you really do care about something, you don't use that as a chance to self-plug yourself. Because if you care about something -- it's not about you. It's about that importance and about helping others.

And honestly? I think call-out posts are so...not helpful. They've been useful in some cases, but a lot of them are misinformed. And a lot are based on emotions, not facts.

Yeah, I'm frustrated too on how things have been going these past few years. Hell, I've written a few posts with anger. But...the majority of my time was spent doing other productive things: education, volunteering, working. Making a difference in my community. For me, call-out posts do little to help anyone.

I

I once had a small rant about this (not sure if it was in this thread or the other one), I think if people where as motivated into creating/helping as they are in senseless call outs and bitching (Ironic I know) we would have already solved most social problems -_-.
that or we would make it worst XD
