I don't really watch hella obscure animes, but I'll bring up one that came out like 10 years back just cuz we got some younger people here who may not have heard of it. People talked about it when it came out and then it just kinda fizzled out because it had some issues in production, and that's Blue Exorcist

and I'll be the first to say it's not the "best" anime, but it was one of my guilty pleasure animes where you're just sometimes in the mood to watch something that's fun and kind of trash (but in a great way). Pretty predictable, pretty rediculous, but has a fun cast, the main characters are dumbass twins (love twins) and it has a real late 00's/early 10's quality that I find kind of nostalgic. They nuke hell with a warhead at one point which was absolutely stupid, and I loved it. Pretty sure at one point Satan was shooting Japan with lasers, this anime whips.

What's also fun about this anime is that like 3 years ago it randomly got relaunched, and they decided to undo some of the decisions that the 1st season of the anime made. So if you're a fan of the manga and didn't quite so love how they nuked hell with a warhead--there's also a version of the same exact anime that didn't go bonkers. Fun for everyone.

@Kuma Saint Seiya was also my childhood, lol. I should say, it isn't underrated in Latin America and parts of Europe, but it never made it big in the US. Probably because of the terrible dub they used to introduce the series.

@Daisy I watched Marnie a while ago and it was really good! Definitely needs more attention.

Also from Ghibli is The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. I'm still salty Big Hero 6 beat it at the Oscars. Disappointed but not surprised.

The pet girl of sakurasou. It was one of my first anime and I felt soo sad when it ended! All the characters are so beautiful and the ending legit made me cry a lot.
I cannot believe its not that well-known out there!

Marnie is my favorite Ghibli movie tbh. And the ED always makes me teary whenever I listened to it.

I rarely see The Tale of the Princess Kaguya in fan-made ghibli lists of films and/or recommendations. The art style varies from the norm but it's a still a treat to watch. I watched it years ago but stopped midway, might watched it again and actually finish it.

Yeah, I'm deep in South America, I watched when I was 6 years old. I remember clearly picking up VHS of the Hades Sanctuary Saga and honest to god shedding tears with many scenes.

Yeah, I got the complete boxset of Astro Boy 2003 for CHristmas one year and a really nice scroll poster of Gatchaman Crowds another year as well. Usually blare Gatchaman Crowds' OST when I'm feeling tired due to how hype it is.

I was in Mexico when the Hades Sanctuary Chapter was released and I remember they used to play it on Cartoon Network there, but I still got the DVDs. I've been watching it since I was like four because of my brothers, so seeing it some back was awesome. Shame the rest of the Hades Saga wasn't the same quality.

Here is my list underrated anime I really liked and loved. Most of the anime I watch aren't as popular as the big one and I tend to watch a lot of under-the-radar anime.

Show

Fena Pirate Princess

- a recent anime I thought is damn good and I enjoyed it alot.

Astra Lost in Space

- one of my all-time favorite anime shows in recent years.

Other underrated anime I enjoy are Tsukgakirei, Orange, Gate, and Rage of Bahamut

Movies

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms

  • probably one of my top 10 favorite animated movies in the past 25 years. Criminally underseen and I wish there's more animated movies like this. If you love anime and animated films, it's a must see.

Patema Inverted

- (unique premise and it's worth checking out)

The article is long for just one show, so I didn't read all of it.

I would say that HGS isn't underrated as many people know about, whether it was good or bad. I responded with a meme as a joke because I thought it was funny. The way you typed HGS made me believe you posted it as a joke as well. As for me, HGS is meh, which means that it was okay, but I wouldn't recommend it to others.

Kudos to you for enjoying HGS. :+1:

FLCL is my favorite anime

After finishing ATLA, I found out it took inspiration from FLCL, so I decided to watch it as it is only 6 episodes, and boy is it weird... but also cool!

Gets that 2000's vibe I so want to replicate in my work and The Pillows Songs are perfect!

It got two more season recently but I haven't watched those in fear that they may be pure nostalgia bait, but I may try them after watching Jujutsu Kaizen

I don''t think it's underrated at all - probably the whole opposite - but, literally, everytime I tell someone to watch it, they never heard of it beforehand, so I'm throwing in Made in Abyss. It has amazing worldbuilding and every episode kept me hooked.
Also, the Digimon movies, best from Adventure to Frontier - even though I've heard that Frontier isn't liked a lot, I think it has it's charm - and Last Evolution: Kizuna!

And one of my personal guilty pleasures, when I really need positive vibes: Miira no Kaikata. Very cute and fun! :3

It's underrated in the sense that people rate it as terrible whereas it's just meh. It's rated as worse than it is, therefore underrated :stuck_out_tongue:
