Ever since the changeover I've noticed our likes, shares etc. have taken a nosedive and we were never that popular to begin with. It can't be unconnected.
Someone else said this before, but it's totally unfair to promote super-popular comics us wee guys cannot hope to compete with on the right hand side of every page. It's almost like saying 'read these instead, they're much more popular.' It's always the same ones too. It would be fairer to promote comics with similar-sized readerships to whatever comic you happen to be on.
Oh and as of today it seems I can't even see a thumbnail when I share to Twitter or Facebook.
Come on Tapas, just roll back to the better layout design, pretty please?
I think 90% of all comics fall into those catagories though xD
Has there been a response regarding the removed 24/h limit on free comics on the popular page yet?
I have a comic that's fairly high up in those ranks, but what about small/new gems of comics? How are they going to get a spot higher up on that page?
We can now split premium and free comics, which is great, but if there's no 24/h timer it's not going to help the small comics. I think adding the 24/h limit back in is going to help such comics and create more diversity.
Regarding likes, on website: I had, as a reader who's also a creator, to develop a routine where I check if I liked pages I commented on, afterwards.
Why? Because the central position of the like button is not as good as the position on the right. All the buttons are in the wrong place. Like, as I was saying before, it's logical to put the arrows on the right on a work read from left to right (but they put them on the...left), it is much better to have the 'like on the left for people who like and comment, because we start writing our comment from the left. Before, there was the routine 'first like then comment' that could be done while barely moving the hand.
I'm not sure how much it impacts likes (it would impact a lot the likes I give, if I was not double checking because as a creator, I know they are important), but it sure impacts the reading experience.
The subscribe/unsubscribe button is so close to the continue button that I have accidentally unsubscribed to so many comics I follow D: If the idea was to make the web version of the site more like a mobile site, this is a big fail. I can't be the only one who accidentally taps on the wrong part of the the little phone screen. At least have a warning pop up, some more alarming color change, or something!
First: Thank you Team Tapas for your hard work.
After some time getting used to the new site. Here are some experience that I as a user still find challenged by when browsing.
On mobile web.
The page loading is jumpy. When a page is loading and I start to scroll it will reload and jump back to top.
In the series overview.
It is very hard to see what episodes I have read or not. The grey-out of already seen episodes are unclear.
The navigation in sorting of newest/oldest keeps confusing me somehow?
When reading episodes I can’t find my way back to the series overview to read the description of the series?
When using the notification that a series has a new episode I’m not being sent to that episode but to the series overview where I have to use the confusing oldest/newest navigation and try to figure out which episodes I have read or not.
When using the notification to read replies in comments I am sent to the comment of that episode. But all the comments replies are hidden and I have to unfold them all to find the right one that I got the notification on.
I did like it when I could follow all the comments on an episode without unfolding. It is for me a big part of the reading experience to also read the comments.
Ah, thank god I wasn't the only one with the jumpy page issue on mobile. I was seriously wondering if something was wrong with my phone or browser.
But yeah, it does like to be jumpy with loading. Sometimes, you progress a few pages, and it might send you back to the top or back a few pages when it loads (or tries to load) in the next few. And overall, it loads in images fairly slowly.
This may be fine for comics with only a few images per page. But something with a lot more images (like one of my favorites, Wayfarer), it gets really annoying to read on mobile.
By comparison, the Wayfarer upload on Webtoon doesn't seem to have either of these issues. If a page doesn't load quickly enough...than it just takes it's time to load. No jumping.
So if Tapas want's to make it less of a pain of a ass to use the mobile website...copy their image loading method. I mean, they're already doing it with the layout, so why not this too
Considering this thread has fallen to the wayside (as in, it's not updating every 30 seconds like it was when it was first posted lmao) lemme just throw in some handy tagging so the notifications get bumped @michaelson @Yoon If you guys are still in the office or working from home amid the virus, let's get these bugs squished and features polished! <3
