Are you asked this by strangers or coworkers? Jeebus, I struggle pronouncing "th" sound but have never had people point it out before

On that note, when someone finds out I'm quarter German (this is a recent development, I actually thought I was half German until Oma pretty much admitted while she was dying that she was NOT German and a member of the Romani people, she just HAD to say she was German once she married Opa) I get a lot of these unwanted responses.

You just reminded me of question my brother and I have gotten.

- Gee, let's see. He's two grades ahead of me so either I'm really stupid or he's really smart. Ooor, all Asians looks the same to you

The one my brother used to get:

When I first moved to America and started first grade my teacher told me (a little child) "oh we are friends with he Germans now."

People tend to associate certain design aspects with something that's already established, without taking into consideration that the character they're referring to was likely already based off of something else.

This character is often compared to He-Man due to the hairstyle, I guess, but it wasn't intentional. Oh well.

When I work with an artist I make it very clear that it's OUR story, not just mine. I believe this makes a bond between the artist and the IP, as I want to make it so the artist actually enjoys working on our book.
Echavez is a very talented artist, although he mostly draws in the manga format, thus he gives some of the characters more anime-esque traits.

When I asked him why he made her hair pink, he just said he thought it was cute, while she may keep that hair color if I ever publish Idyll Haven in Asian countries, I believe her having brown hair is more appropriate in the west, as I envision the series having a hybrid style between western and oriental art styles.

Hmm. I'm an artist who shares the IP of the story I create with the writer. I think changing details like that around is ... pretty bad imo. Basically because it interferes with the writing. I take inspiration from manga but just because something is manga, doesn't mean it has to have unnatural coloured hair. More serious stories tend to follow realism more closely in all aspects. We ended up throwing out unnatural hair colours because we felt like it'd undermine the serious nature of the story. I mean look at all studio ghibli films. Memorable characters, simple designs, normal looking people. The only ones with weird hair colours are characters that have explained backstories (or otherwise obvious reasons) for them. Attack on Titan is another example.

Sounds like even if you kept it pink for eastern audiences, it might still feel weird to them that she's the only one with abnormal hair colour.

My old boss used to constantly ask me to buy beer for the restaurant, but he'd ask "Can you legally buy beer?" Yes, I'm 23 and I can buy beer.

I don't get a lot of questions on my art but I don't like when people make weird comparisons.

Like someone who thought my character looked too much like a character from Homestuck.

Or someone who thought a character of mine named Edward was a reference to Edward Cullen.
