I was not very interested in drawing comics as a kid despite consuming a lot of manga. The series that made me think, "oh hey making my own series could be cool" was Berserk, but I think it was during my early teens when I discovered Planetes and Eden: It's an Endless World! that I was convinced this was something I actually wanted to do.

There was a certain atmosphere/feeling both gave me that left me craving for more, in the same way that Berserk did. Both also treated death in a way that--ditto, gave me peace? Made me accept it better?
Another big influencer was a short series called Masturbation Master Kurosawa.

As a kid who was very emotionally repressed and mentally isolated from others, it did a surprising lot in helping me deal with my feelings.
And finally, Daisuke Igarashi's Witches.

I never enjoyed fantasy as a kid--just couldn't understand the appeal behind it. I did however, have an insane obsession with certain historical figures like Alexander the Great. This work helped me reconcile historical interests with fantasy, and led me down a path of trying to seek out books/films/etc. that were "artistically chaotic"/"random", for a lack of better words.
