What makes you comment?

I usually comment on episodes that are particularly eventful/nice to look at.

I find it easier to talk about the art. It's a lot more difficult to say something worthwhile about the story because you're not really getting much of it on a single page, but it's easy to say you think the lighting in the third panel looks great, or you like a character's expression. I'm trying to make myself comment about the story more often because it's something I'd like to receive on my own comic.

eeh, I'm kinda leery of commenting on something until I know the creator wants to joke around. I've had instances in the past where my type of humor was...er...a bit unwelcome (like, GTFO) and I've known creators who were ready to see every comment as an affront and others that were quite sensitive about their babies and I'd rather not offend or hurt anyone's feelings. But if I do comment, I mostly do so on the flow of panels and how it helps characterization or drives the story. That, and sassy, punny, eye-rolling jokes.

I always try to comment, especially like other people said if the creator and I are acquainted with each other already. Because I want to get comments on my comic I give comments to others. Like, it's what I would like. So I assume it's what other creators would like!

I don't think about it that much. If I have something I feel like is humorous/worthy enough, shoot, go for it. One of the reasons I actually made an account was to make the joke everyone missed.

I usually comment so I can express my opinion/feedback on the comic as well as get involved in the Tapastic community. The more often you comment on other comics you like, the more likely you'll get noticed.

About half the time I'll comment with an observation about the comic, and the other half is comments about how good the series is or jokes about said series. Really, whatever comes to mind is what I'll put. As long as you are not bagging on their comic or whatever, the authors will be happy you commented.

I'm a hardcore lurker and usually multitasking when I read webcomics, so I don't comment much...

I think most of the comments I've left have had to do with me liking the artwork of a particular page or panel. :> although sometimes, if it's a lighthearted comic, I'll also try to think of something witty.

My past comments that I can remember are all about visual storytelling. Not just the art, not just the writing, but how the art carries the story, conveys just the right mood, imparts just the right impact.

The latest one like that was left on this episode of Alone. I didn't spell it out there because I was pretty sure the creator knew it, but the use of colors accentuates the mood/storytelling. It isn't just eyecandy.

I rarely comment on the art alone because that kind of feels like a low hanging fruit. XD; yes it is pretty and my eyes are happy duuur.

Some of the other things I may comment on: expressions, body languages, memorably worded quotes that I strongly agree with.

Sometimes it's to tell a silly joke on a funny comic, or to appreciate something I think was done particularly well.

I feel a bit ashamed sometimes how often I DON'T comment. I know it's silly, but you appreciate everyone who works on a comic and wish you could make sure they know at all times, you know?

I like letters... especially when they make words....
Actually I do it to either say somethining is neat because of the story, artwork, or hidden gags I noticed.
Or to get lost in comment chains (those are fun )
Or to add a secondary joke... Those are rare though....

I am not good at leaving comments (I can barely think of ways to respond to the comments I get). Sometimes on the few occasions I do wish to leave a comment, I'll think 'em up, write them, but then not end up sending them cause I guess I feel my comment is not necessary.

I have a very harsh way of putting things I guess? So lots of things I say online are often taken very negatively even if they were not meant to be negative. So even when I do say something nice people make the assumption that I'm actually saying the opposite and I'm saying "This page looks great" in a sarcastic sense and then flip out on me.

So after years of people online just flippping out on me every time I decide to say something nice I generally just don't bother with nice little comments anymore and just stick to posting if I have a relevant reason for posting.

I'm pretty reserved when it comes to comments so I usually comment when there is something meaningful to say about the plot/characters/scenario. Although occasionally I like complimenting works that I like.

I usually only comment when there's something that I can add to the conversation, like a witty statement or something that adds to a joke. Otherwise, it's better just to complement or say nothing.

I usually post a comment out of curtsey , anything that's on my mind about the comic, even if it's a simple "<3". Because I know comments hold higher appreciation to creators than "Likes" (I also give a like too 6w6). I also do this to follow the "do for other which you want done for you" motto, atleast in pitiful hopes to bring up a louder community of readers. Comics that I'm more invested in I will habitually comment on most-to-every page to show that I am a living-active reader supporting the creator's work, because, well, it's difficult imagining the appreciation of a silent reader on the other side.

I post longer comments sometimes to comics to episodes I find extremely touching (only if I have time though).

As a creator, I LOVE receiving comments. It shows that readers actually look at your work. Even if it is a criticism (constructive) I appreciate every single note someone leaves. Then I try to do my best to reply and start a convo if warranted.
