At least you picked something that you could continue using indefinitely  trust me when I tell you that 10yo me did not pick a username I’d be willing to use anymore :see_no_evil: :joy:

I use a psydonym. I'm just more comfortable feeling like there is a separation, especially since my work is mature. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I'm still more comfortable thus way.

And I choose it because for one, poppies have been very prevalent between my sister and me, and we're showing up a bunch at the time. Secondly, wanted something with a fairytale feel too it.

@SleepingPoppy that makes a lot of sense (very relatable!) and that’s really sweet that you tied something meaningful into your name  you have a really whimsical username!

@ar-ninetysix - at least you have good initials to use!! I don’t mind my (real) initials, but they’re not great for usernames (or emails )

Mine is/was my Pokémon Go trainer name :joy: i wanted something to put together my favorite Pokémon (ninetails) and my favorite Pokémon type. I liked the name so much that I decided to keep using it.

I didn’t do initials or anything because my first name is boring and my last name is hard to pronounce (somehow).

Also too childish to use a pseudonym anyone would take seriously

Your username is so much fun! And I love ninetails! And I also love that this is your Pokémon Go name :joy:
I’m on the opposite side of the name thing - my first name is way too noticeable :weary:

Mine is the most basic name ever  I love my little name  and when people shorten it to Fox. Makes me feel important :joy::joy:

pseudonym squad!

Mira's actually a small part of my middle name, Miracle, but i added Astralis cause its cool ig, and i think it means 'of the stars', so yea.

Its my Artist name and i heckin' love it, XD. its also now the name of my persona, so thats cool.

My name is mix of two usernames I have.

The first part comes from Commander Dumbass (yes that was actually a name I had)

and the second part comes from big dicc marty (based on an image that I found funny)

Mix them together and you get CommanderMarty

I use the conglomeration of two nicknames “Morgana” after the evil queen from Arthurian legend (because I was the ONLY girl in robotics and VERY bossy), and “Mevil” which is just the first letter of my first name plus “evil” (because I was a terrible child all of elementary school). And middle school. And most of high school.

In my defense, I only got detention four times. I was just bored in class from lack of learning, so I entertained myself in other ways.

I picked 'pseudonym', but a more accurate description would be 'Japanese syllabic mishmash that just happens to sound nice'.

I do think the DokiDoki bit is a bit weebish at face value, but I've gotten used to it. =/

Mine is a pseudonym in the sense that it is not my legal name, but it's a bit more than just a pseudonym. It's the name I use everywhere except professional and administrative context. I have no emotional link to my birth name due to it being ugly (imo), not fitting, and too gendered. Plus, my family always used nicknames for me, my spouse use my second name... my legal name is just a burden without redeeming qualities

I'm may eventually change my legal name to Vothn. And probably take another name to write to keep more freedom (mostly from professional life).

Mine is a fake name. I though it'd be better on an English site than my non-English name

a gaming/pen name I used it since forever for everything creative or fun

fakes name obviously. Who names a kid free mints? Even my instagram name is fake too I'm not carlos. Really I just enjoy a separation of my online life and IRL one. period. Just thought of this one on the spot when I made my account.

"wnqs" stands for Winged Neo Queen Serenity
"Ryoko" because I like Ryoko from Tenchi Muyo :stuck_out_tongue:

neither are my actual name, but I've used them forever, usually "wnqs" more often, though.

(I drew a life sized Ryoko on my wall, which my parents didn't know about for a long time because when my bedroom door was open, it hid it :stuck_out_tongue: Also, I love Sailor Moon :P)

I use my initials because my real name is hella normie and boring. My initials are coincidentally a really normie name in India. I can never win.

Actually my real name. My parents are comedians I tell you.

Because the content I write, I use a pseudonym.
I don't like my real life identity and associating my creative work with it, and I don't want my unsupportive environment to track me online writing garbage.

@Mira_Astralis that’s a really pretty artist name! And it’s nice to be able to use part of your own name as a starting point

@CommanderMarty this is hilarious on a number of levels and seems like the kind of humor I was around in one of my prior jobs :joy:

@MorganaMevil that’s a pretty epic pseudonym! With fun little personal touches to it  I was also a terrible child - especially in elementary school :see_no_evil:

@DokiDokiTsuna this part made me laugh :joy: and it’s a pretty great way to pick out a fun username

@vothnthorvaldson it’s so interesting how some people are really aligned with their birth name (I’m one of those) while others are so detached from them (one of my siblings has contemplated a legal name change for a long time). Also, how would one pronounce “Vothn”? It’s good that you’ve found a name that works better for you! :relieved:

@amberberry pen names do seem to be popular here

@domisotto yours is fun to say (think?) was there any significance behind it or just something that stuck?

@NickRowler even a partial pseudonym helps with anonymity

@Freemints30 I’m really glad you clarified this wasn’t your real name. I might have spent the rest of my life confused and concerned for you /s :joy: yeah, I have an art IG account that I don’t have my real name attached to and I’d like to keep it that way. And then I use a pseudonym here. Keeping everything separate has been good for me (and for many others as well, clearly)

@ryoko I love the name Ryoko! (Despite have zero idea who the character you’re referring to is ) that is a pretty epic drawing and jacket!

@DogshitJay obviously :joy:

@rajillustration at least you have good initials! (Trust me, not all of us do!) It seems to work well as a username, even if you do get a normie name either way

@Reveal I can’t argue with that logic :joy:

@uselessgoddess I totally understand using a pseudonym as a means of separating work and real life, but it seems like there’s quite a few people who use them because they have an unsupportive environment and that makes me frustrated. But, at least it’s possible online

You can! I changed my username a while ago from realdualdragons to DualDragons.

It should be an option in your settings

That sounds pretty intense! (I know nothing about creating games - it’s pure magic to me lol :see_no_evil:) but it’s good to have name that works for everything

@DualDragons I’ve never gone looking to change my username so I actually didn’t know that was in the settings either

I’ve been inspector spinda everywhere since 2014. It was originally a question I asked a friend in high school. What Pokémon are you? I felt like I was a spinda because I was a total moron, but cute :joy: I also like cop shows

Mine is a pen name.
I chose it the same way I choose my character names.
So, things I considered: species (I'm human, I swear), gender, most-fitting genre, pronounceability and memorability. I also googled the name to see if any other author has it already.

:sunglasses:

I am born in the March - Spring and my name is Diana(like the Roman goddess) - Maid

All right, ready to hear the lame and not at all tragic backstory that gave me the name, Red Feather?

Well, here it is!

I like feathers that are red.

Mine is a code name :spy: When we were teenagers, my sister and I invented a way to convert our real names into aliases. The method made no sense at all but it worked for us, and I've been using the resulting name since then.

My father used to call me "Coati", so I pick it to be my artistic name. Its a childhood memory I decided to hold
