When did you get the biggest increase in subscribers?

I advertised like crazy in April and got the biggest bumps to my subscriber + views then. Being proactive and submitting your stuff to lists, reviewers, and any way else you can think of getting more eyes on your stuff helps.

Ah cool thanks where did you advertise? Are there any lists that you found particularly useful? It seems quite hard to find people willing to review, but then maybe haven't looked hard enough : )

Your series is incredible anyway, by the way! Anyone reading this who hasn't already checked it out should do so, Heart Hex is one of my most favourite comics in the last couple of years!

Same boat with the daily snack. I got the first episode of my comic + a tipping special in there and it rocketed.

Like Stnmaren said too, though, a lot ended up leaving. Especially I think because a good number subscribed because of my tipping comic and probably thought that my comic was some sort of gag comic when it's not at all. A good number DID stay too though, and it was a nice little boost for my comic!

when id like just posted by prologue i got maybe 20 subscribers from posting on tumblr with a lot of lgbt tags, and i think i also got promoted by an lgbt comics blog. thats the biggest sub boom ive experienced

My biggest boost was soon after I joined, when a reader was generous enough to give my comic a signal boost on their series. Thanks to them, I gained a huge influx of subs. :>

I haven't been fortunate enough to get any kind of official feature, but I find that reader recommendations are an excellent way to boost each other's comics.

As for advertising, I added myself to the tagtracker for LGBT comics, did some Instagram ads (for very short periods of times to smaller areas), and I found the Webcomic Wanderer on Tumblr to review. I also try to consistently post on Twitter for WebcomicWednesday and for Comic Book Hour + Webcomic Chat. It helps get your name out there!

I also push my comic to everyone I know, because word of mouth is an invaluable tool, and it works. I'm working on getting stuff together for art walks so I can advertise to a broader, local audience again.

Been here for almost a year and I'm still waiting for my big bump. I always thought that my comic would surely be feature on the front page, it has what the best comics have: killer story & amazing art. Still waiting to get featured.
The problem, I think, is that the editors favor "Family Friendly" content, so my NSFW & Gore scenes just make it a no-no for them. Other than that, they obviously favor the daily strip style or some already hugely popular comics.
My advice for you (I read & follow your comics already) is to just keep going, make a consistent update schudule and hope to get published in paper later on, because even the famous comics here don't make much on Patreon. I've researched some and the ones with 1k to 10k subs usually make from 100 - 400 USD. That doesn't help much to quit your day job in the end =/

I started strong with my first chapter, Tapastic staff emailed me with some compliments about the series (I dunno if that led to a staff pick as after putting the comic up I went on holiday!) and I also linked the comic in the description of a massively popular YouTube video I had.

Since then I've not been able to get as many views. I can't do social media (I never really know what to write, and putting "Read My Comic!!!" three times a day might annoy the few followers I have.)

Anyway. That first bump netted me about 2000 views in a relatively short time. Since then my chapters get around 100 views or so over time, but I also upload on an incredibly slow schedule.

I wish I had a huge bump, but getting 8 subs in one day is the biggest so far.

My comic somehow ended up in the Trending section on the front desktop page of Tapastic in my last 2 updates, and those have been helpful with getting a few hundred more views than usual, and those few extra subs. No official promotions or anything from Tapas but I appreciate the fact my comic is even on the site's algorithm radar haha.

Your comic is fantastic, totally agree that it ought to be featured. Some of the cliffhangers are incredible, one actually almost made me gasp, it was masterful. Yeah... unfortunately it's probably the case about the NSFW stuff (unfortunately). Really interesting point about Patreon... even super successful webcomic creators seem to struggle, I wonder why that is...

My biggest increase in subs for my comic Life of an Aspie was when I realized that reaching out to other creators i.e taking an interest in their own projects was just as important as updating your comic regularly if not more so. Without that realization, I would probably have still stayed in very low double digit numbers for my sub count if even that. (God I still can't believe how far I've come in the last year.)

Since then, sticking to a regular schedule posting three pages a week and being active on social media seems to have helped me reach out to potential subscribers. Matter of fact, I have even gained the attention of fellow creators for whom LoaA strikes a personal chord with regarding the aforementioned "aspie" in the title of my comic. Definitely didn't see that one coming.

The point about patreon is: you need to have a MASSIVE following to get many contributions on Patreon. I had to lern it the hard way. I have 5k+ subs on Webtoons, Wanna know how many of them pledge to my Patreon? None. Not a single one. They are all really engaged in the comments, love the comic, but not one of them want to pay. The only patrons I got were people that followed my work from a long time, and some real life friends. And for what I noticed in other small webcomic creators like us, it's the same everywhere.
Now, look into some Youtube creators and the story is completely different. They have huge followings and even the considered "small channels" (from 50-100k subs) get 5 to 10x more Patrons than us.
I summary, I think the answer is INTIMACY. In Youtube is easier for people to feel closer to you, like a real friend. They hear your voice, see you creating the piece, so it's easier for them to admire you and feel compelled to contribute. They want to be part of something. Youtube helps them know the real you better.

mmm I think the big noticeable bump I had was when I got on the Daily Snack a few weeks back. The sub count shot up over a thousand. I was freaked. I usually gain 3-100 subs depending on an update day, (usually doubles with trending), a regular non-update day, or when I start a new series.

In May, but to be honest, my sub count has been relatively consistent? Except March, and I'm sure that's because I only updated once that month compared to my somewhat weekly updates.

I managed to get some of my comics to the front page of Imgur one time! That netted me about 100 people's interest I think? I was so excited! I haven't really gotten any interest in ages though, but it's okay! I know it's because I lost my motivation, so right now, I'm going to just plod along, make what I can, and once I'm back in the saddle sitting tall, I'll go back to trying to get attention
