Hello, all :).

I went on a huge hiatus and decided to stop working on the comic I was currently on. I had a strong feeling people only followed for me to interact/follow back? I may go back to finish it cause I know where it's going I just feel down working on it so meh.

But I have been working on another project.

I have 3 chapters done but was thinking I would wait to post it till the first "part" is done. Part one ends once we have the initial set up that's the cause of the rest of the parts. (thinking it may end up being 8 to 10 chaps- I have it written out but I've been making the chaps based on panel numbers).

Then I figured I would shoot for like once a year upload a part.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on that strategy?

Once a year means visibility will be quite low outside of the day you upload and a few days after. If you are choosing up upload annually, you are choosing to prioritize your own comfort and enjoyment of creating a comic over better visibility.

It is completely up to you, but uploading more often or less often comes with a cost.

Upload more frequently = More appearances on Fresh, Newly Updated, more opportunities to get new readers, and retain readership in the SHORT term. More stress trying to keep up with a frequent schedule.

Upload less frequently = More time for yourself to think, plan, write, draw, and just enjoy making your comic, but readers will come EXTREMELY slowly, and retaining readers will be even more difficult in the early chapters because they will likely leave or become inactive in the 264 days between updates. You may not gain regular fans until 3 years down the line, with people being able to binge 3 episodes at once.

What? I was reading your comic :frowning: perhaps u need rest from project, which is understandable. I do my comic for a long time and sometimes I just need to stop and draw little bit new stuff. I wish you luck and all best!

Seconding this. There's certainly nothing wrong with having an infrequent upload schedule, but it's good to be aware of the consequences that come with it.

As a personal anecdote, earlier this year I decided to try releasing a new series on a monthly schedule and even that frequency had a super tough time getting eyes on it compared to my previous weekly series. Was hoping the beefier episodes would compensate for the lesser frequency and maybe retain readers better, but it had such low overall views that it didn't matter much.

One thing that I would say if you go for very infrequent updates, though, would be to spend some of that extra time building a really substantial marketing plan. When that update goes live you need to have other ways to get people's eyes on it rather than just relying on site features (fresh, popular, etc.) because... yeah, those don't work as consistently for infrequent updates  In my experience it can be hard to make substantial marking material on something like a weekly or even monthly schedule, but if you have a long time between updates then there's time to really work on and polish that aspect alongside the comic itself
