Hi everyone!

Where do you draw inspiration to create your stories from? Whether it is writing the story or creating art, or characters.

I tend to see when I'm writing I tend to draw my inspiration for the story from music and the stories that pop into my head as the song plays.

My character inspirations come based on the stories from the songs but I also see myself pulling together characters from bits and pieces of other characters that I tend to admire. I also pull traits from friends and family or myself, or traits I wish I had.

However, this also poses the question of is it okay to use the traits you admire from other characters but taking a fresh spin on it? For a random explain Sakura from Naruto. I have a friend working on a story and she really likes Sakura's drive and character development where she went from this girl always standing behind her friends to the one taking charge and standing on her own two feet. She is writing a character that isn't standing behind her friends but is learning to stand on her own through her own personal trauma.

What do you guys think? What inspires you for your stories/comics? What do you guys think are good ways to draw inspiration, or is everyone different?

I'm able to get inspired by almost anything whether it's music, art, movies, things I see on the street or even researching for university. One of my biggest inspirations is traveling though. Just a few days in another country normally end up with me taking a bag full of new ideas home :smiley:

Music is 100% my go-to mood-setter whenever I need to write and I have playlists made on both Youtube and Spotify for each of my projects to help me stay in the mood range that will provide me with emotions I need to channel for the overall theme of the story. :heart:

Oh my granola, I literally thought I was the only writer that had multiple playlists for moods I want portrayed during my story that I am writing. Like when I'm writing a strong female character I have a playlist literally of female artists songs that make me feel confident. But then I literally take all the most listened too songs for each mood and put them into a generic "story xx" playlist

Answer is.. Everything!
I get inspiration from music, literature, any kind of art;
From nature, a lot, from the tree outside to tropical plants I never saw other than in pictures; from what I see through the microscope to biotopes at the geographical scale.
From history;
From languages;
From people I met;
From places I visited;
Food I tasted etc

Mostly music. Each character has their own song, or multiple songs that encompass their personality and motivations.
I also base storylines around songs too.

There is also a bit of shonen anime influence as well as silver age comics.

I get most inspired by other stories, whether it's ones I've read, watched, or heard about. Sometimes I just randomly get ideas too, but I suspect their subconsciously inspired by other stories too!

cool! its great you get inspired from songs! :blush:

for me its almost everything that i do and encounter day to day

tv shows
movies
anime
video games
people
my dogs
other peoples tapas/ webtoon comics
marvel / dc

By a lot of things. Videos, songs, dreams, shower thought, day dreaming... Yeah, well, it's a lot.

Shower thoughts! I wish I could literally write things down in the shower.

I go to the library every week or so and get a giant STACK of comic books of different varieties. Occasionally one of them will click and I find myself gravitating their style of writing and/or art.

I read a TON of very different things. I also watch a variety of youtube channels, podcasts, movies etc and I think that creates a mixing pot of inspiration for me. I even get some of my dialogue ideas from social mead (read: twtter, tumblr) so there's that.

Music, movies, old comics. Sometimes ideas come to me while i'm on the bathroom.

For me, inspiration can come from pretty much any random thing, but more often from: dreams, negative emotions (you are such an emo, Azifri), visiting places and spending some time just observing, and other stories (comics, books, video games, anime, etc).
