I'm using Anime Ace right now, but while it's free, it's not meant for commercial use.
Do you know about any good open fonts meant for comics?
I only found Comic Neue254, which is a nice take on the old Comic Sans, but it still looks a bit unprofessional and people might mix it up with the regular Comic Sans.

Anyway, which fonts do you use and do you have any free fonts that work great for comics?

Humana Sans ITC for two of my series. It was free as it came with my old mac, but then it broke down and I had to get a new laptop. My new mac doesn't come with it but for the sake of consistency I dropped some dough to buy the font from MyFonts.com. XP

My other series uses Tekton Pro which is included on my laptop.

Also I just looked at Comic Neue, I initially cringed when you mentioned it was based on comic sans, but its actually a rather nice lettering font.

I actually made my own font based on a cleaner version of my handwriting!

CC Wild Words213 is the best one I've seen that has a comic feel and I definitely will be using it in my future comic smile

edit: umm...for commercial use...not sure anymore if you have to pay for this font or not. lol

Er, Anime Ace is from Blambot, right? I thought you could use that for commercial use if you're an indie artist? (or am i misunderstanding Blambot's rules...haha)

I use Yadayadayada which was bought for me. I use to use Wikd Words though which was also bought for me ^^b~

I've also used Chinacat for one of my colored comics~

I write in most of my speach bubbles but I like to use 1001 Fonts14 as a reference. The green tagged ones are free and I think you can download them to your computer, but I'm not quite clear on how.

I use Billy the Flying Robot35. I had to pay for it, but in all fairness, Blambot fonts are ridiculously cheap considering the time it takes to create a good font - and also compared to fonts that cost like...$200 or more.

It's important for me to use fonts that have the letters Æ, Ø and Å, in case I want to write my comics in Norwegian too. I wanted a font with a whimsical, handwritten style for the type of comic I'm working on right now, but I have some other projects in mind where I'm pretty sure I'll go for something different.

My initial reaction was the exact same! XP And I can't believe I'm saying this...but I have to admit that Comic Neue doesn't look that bad.

Choosing font is tricky - there's finding one that you personally like and that fits your comic, but that's also legible and doesn't turn your readers away. I see dafont4 and 1001 Fonts3 have been mentioned already. I'd also recommend Font Squirrel9 - for comics, I think their Handdrawn Fonts19 might be your best bet. Don't know how many of them are licensed for commercial use though, so that's worth double-checking wink

I'm using one called Klepon Scone, which I nabbed off dafont.com23, because my own handwriting is atrocious and unfit for human eyes. I like it because it's similar enough to my own handwriting at its neatest to look like it might be my own hand, while it's also neat and readable.

dafont.com is nice because you can filter out search results to only get fonts that are free to use.

I also sometimes use Optimus Princeps Semi-Bold, but that's for lettering the title-pages.

comic sans. manga temple and i dunno the rest just random specially when they are shouting

I use cc wild words, a very good manga font for manga's or any cartoons. Aparajita for all titles / copyrights.

I also use Blambot's Anime Ace, sometimes Digital Strip. Another option is VTC Letterer Pro29.

But ultimately, I'd like to make and use my own font and share it absolutely free.

I'm using Ames55 for my comic. It has nice variety of Nordic characters and is free for original comics. Sorry the site is in Finnish. ^^'
