@therosesword without delving too far into specifics... it’s an author I know who self publishes. I offered illustrations (despite having zero background in that) after discussing since it sounded like my kind of art style. They accepted. The good thing is... we know each other well. The bad thing is... getting all the info I need from them. They’re willing to give me lots of creative freedom, which is great! Except for the lack of info
I wouldn’t say I offered out of the kindness of my heart - I feel like I’ll get plenty from this deal and they have more to lose since my art style is kind of all over the place. That level of trust and expectation is just kind of terrifying to me, honestly. It’s kind of funny how fish-out-of-the-water I feel about this, but I also realize that I’m attempting to be an illustrator, editor, and layout manager with zero formal training in any of those areas. So, I suppose for that, I appreciate your sympathy
I feel it almost might be easier if it were a complete stranger for my first collab.
(And thanks for letting me ramble on about this because I didn’t realize how much I needed to get it off my chest until just now
)
