For me, I really do like the aesthetic quality of a black and white comic, but it's about whether I can finish a comic or not. I've been caught in the mire of doing a fully painted comic, getting to about page 60 and just running entirely out of steam (and taking years to get there). Doing it black and white means that I'm able to hold to a weekly update for the foreseeable future. Like for a longer comic (and my current one will be around 1000 pages) if I can only finish one page a week, that's about 20 years of updates. That's longer than it takes for a baby to become an adult. That's...that's a lot more commitment than I'm willing to make. So, going simpler, pulling out most of the color, means I can make a buffer, hopefully to the point that I can eventually do multiple uploads a week and get this thing done.
Doing black and white vs color is the difference between spending 5 hours on a page and 1.5 hours on a page. If I was doing a shorter comic, then color would be fine, but for right now it just isn't at all reasonable with what my end goals are. And, honestly, since letting go of color, I'm able to have a lot more fun with my linework since I don't need to worry about paint-n-fill. Just let the lines carry all the energy for me.
But honestly there's no should or shouldn't, better or worse, when it comes to comics. Each story requires it's own unique needs and it's own unique style.
