I just finished a page, so I don't have any WIP at the moment, so here is how I storyboard / make layouts. Nothing fancy. Then below that I have a sort of WIP step by step of my latest thing. ouo

Today I finished the rough sketches for the last 3 pages of chapter 21! (Woot woot! Inks here we come!)
Here's a panel from the next upcoming page:

Ahh Nessie! Looking great! Mildew looks like she's gettin' her flirt on!

@WakaXO Excited for this spoiler-not-spoiler page though! Any reason you have her drawn with multiple colored lines in that first panel? Are they on different layers or something?

@ahkwardkat I will always be in love with your little swirly smoke details.

@Michelle Gahh! Spoiler warning next time! This pic clearly shows that Midori is going to get a pet subway car very soon!

I guess I'll post mine too. : >

Been a bit slow with this page because of commissions.
Totally picked this color scheme because it has significance to the plot, and not because I really wanted to paint everything bright hot pink.
Totally..... totally.
...I have a weakness for colorful sunsets. Trite or not, they're too fun not to do.

Also don't see this as much of a spoiler page out of context. It's pretty far into the buffer. XD Although maybe one person will get what's actually happening.

No, its all one layer; when drawing the base sketch I usually do separate colours for separate parts of the sketch so I can make out whats what... or else the sketch gets so messy I can't tell whats going on, lol ^^;

Also your page looks great! I think bright pink is a good choice anytime! smiley

Oh crap I-I promise they're just shopping in this panel, they haven't picked their subway car yet---

XD Seriously though your gorgeous WIP is making me stoked to see your comic! Aaaaaaa

Aha, thanks!

It's so nice to see a page of your comic after seeing little bits of character designs throughout the forums, when do you think you're gonna start posting it? It's looking really pretty!

Aww, thanks Nessie! I actually don't know the exact date. I set my goal around the end of this month and the start of the next. I still have a lot of work left with redoing the comic pages that were in the other lineart style that I struggled with, so I'm a bit unsure how long that will take. So uhh, I'll do my best to meet my goal, but since I've never really produced a comic like this before, I can't really be sure. XD

Also, I just realized... Looking back at that page's color scheme. I think Lisa Frank had a bigger influence on me as a kid than I had first thought... XD

The Lisa Frank Leopard might be my spirit animal, and I'm okay with this.

It's definitely rainbowy but not in a bad way- I forsee this being a featured comic on release : D

Oh, gaaah. Alain you flatter me too much.

You know you should post your WIPs too. : > (nudge, nudge) I'd love to see how you work through your comic traditionally.

I have the world's most boring page process, hence why I don't have great footage, but I do have some phone snapshots.

Here's my latest WIP page, but it's pretty much done, so it's not too exciting to see:

all it needs is to be scanned, edited, then I color digitally in a weird way, but it only takes maybe 20 minutes per page.

Usually the full process is a page of thumnails, then I pencil all those pages at once.

I hate pencilling so I do a shoddy job:

Then I ink things over the course of the week whenever and wherever I feel like- you can see that the pencils stay crummy into the ink process. I'd rather have kind of a spontaneous inking, but sometimes its just disaster and I have to put huge patches over a page. I don't have pictures of those, but I just layer paper scraps with Nori paste over the bits I ruin.

Then the rest is digital and really dull. I just use a watercolor texture over the whole page in black, then vary eraser pressure to build up the tones back to white.

Lol that's awesome! I put my friends/family/me in my backgrounds all the time, it really saves time on character design ;D

Oh man, I don't know how you have such smooth penmanship with such a loose sketch. That's amazing. Also, those thumbnail chibis are the most adorable!

And are the scented candles and Bob's Burgers equally important to the creative process too? XD I approve.
