As an artist, the existence of AI made me want to try twice as hard to learn and develop my own style, against it's all-over presence. But, there are defeatist people in the world who will just stop due to inconveniences. Every artist has their own way to react to the current, and if people keep drawing, or stop it completely, is up to the individual.
Yes. I would stop making art because of the AI takeover.
Alongside the far right takeover of our failing democracies and our decades long unwillingness to do anything about the dying climate, people embracing AI art makes me feel as if humanity is far too stupid for even my lowly creations.
To put it another way: I think my art just passes the bar of acceptability and most people still don't deserve what I can give them. That's how little I think of the species. My expectations are so low they're in the Earth's core and I'm still being disappointed every day.
BUT
... there's a less misanthropic side that tells me I'm gonna draw anyway so I might as well share it. Art without an audience is just masturbation.
I art because I like to art, and have been doing so since I was a kid (with a not-so-brief intermission). I don't do this with the expectation of making myself rich. Hope? Of course, but no expectation.
Truthfully, I'm imaging AI renderings to wind up right up there with 3D televisions in terms of mainstream adoption. Remember those? No? Exactly...
It's a fad. People try it, get bored with it when they realize how little it has to offer, and move on.
I wrote a much angrier sounding first response, so tried again lol. Basically, no, you shouldn’t quit drawing or writing or anything else artistic because of AI. We should always be doing those things to express ourselves primarily, because we enjoy it (in my humble opinion), but to each their own. I write because I love to do it, even if no one ever reads any of it. I think some people value other things more, but I’m not remotely interested in policing anyone. I simply will not ever think of anyone who shows me anything AI as an artist. But that’s me.
That aside, I also think there will always be people who recognize and want the real thing. Maybe less people will be motivated to try, maybe those who do will have to charge more, but I think some people will always grow tired of lesser quality, of fake art, on whatever medium, and go seek those who still ply their craft. Not a perfect analogy, but many still buy and listen to vinyl records when they have Spotify on their phones. Why? Because it sounds better. Because it feels good to have something made and holding it and seeing it on your collection in person.
These are just my thoughts, and feel free to ignore them, but I would encourage anyone who still feels any ember of passion left to keep going, and if anything, art harder! Whether 1 person or a million ever see it. It’s still real, and meaningful, and if it gave you anything in the process of making it, I’d say it was worth it. So, yeah, those are my two cents. Sorry if this was long. 🏽
The love of art/writing and story telling has always been my biggest motivation alongside spite. In the wake of ai freaking everything the spite only grows because again I make art and write and tell stories because I'm passionate about it and no amount of nay-saying will stop me
Ive already had an art educator try to turn me away when i was still in my early stages of learning and growing as an artist amid my own swirling self doubt but if that didn't stop me then I see no reason to let this be some block to get in my way either. Sure it gets tiring seeing the umpteenth "just learn how to code/you're being replaced/get a real job" (even though i work a whole full time job outside of art and its where i get most of my income anyways-) BUT I wont let it stop me from creating even if it's just for the sake of making it for my own amusement or satisfaction
Like recently on the whole topic i think these three online posts ive come across have done well to sort of mirror my views on it
like end of day nothing willl stop me from drawing unless i bite the dust but until then i will continue to scrawl out drawings of my silly little characters in whatever situations my head cooks up and thats that xD
Here’s my take on it: I think people are being a little too sensitive about this.
Wait, hear me out! Before you sharpen the pitchforks or reach for the knives…
Everything that has been created in art is already there. Nothing, not AI, not any tool, can take that away. Your work, your time, your voice as an artist is. It will never be made lesser because someone next door generated a poster for their coffee shop using Midjourney, or someone else illustrated their poem with Leonardo.
AI is just a tool. Like any tool, it depends on how you use it. When used responsibly, it can support creativity. It’s not there to replace you. Honestly, I don’t think it can. But it can save time and energy, and sometimes, saving those can help you do greater things with the resources you have left.
Yes, for a while, we’ll probably see a lot of "empty", “shitty” or “soulless” content flood in, because AI is the shiny new toy, and people like shiny new toys. But like with every new toy, the hype eventually fades, and what remains is what has value. Hopefully. Maybe people will learn how to make better use of it: learn, improve, level up etc etc etc….
Getting angry that AI exists isn’t the answer. And giving up on art because AI exists definitely isn’t either. If something else is causing you to stop, that’s different. But don’t let a tool be the reason. That would be like quitting music because someone invented a synthesizer.
I’m commissioning an artist right now, because there are things AI can’t do. My novels on Tapas are 90% emotional. I needed someone with human vision and intuition to help me bring that feeling to life. I’ve used AI before too, I know where it helps, and where it doesn’t.
That’s the key: discernment. Just like you don’t eat 100 bags of chips a week and expect to be healthy, you don’t use a tool without thought and expect meaning. The power isn’t in the tool. It’s in the hands of whoever’s using it.
So… learn. Explore. Use the tools wisely. Be truthful with yourself. Be kind. You know… those old romantic things.

I would stop using social media because of AI.
A lot of my facebook friends use AI and have a comic or Ghibli AI profile
picture now and upload their own action figure done by AI.
They lost all of my respect.
I just had an update from a DIY punkrock label that I was following
saying "Support your local DIY punkrock label" and he was using
an AI picture of himself. I did artwork for that guy once, I did the
illustration for free, he didn´t mention me on the release and didn´t
thank me online. He lost all credibility for me
I don´t want to surround myself with negative stuff. Pinterest is flooded
with AI, every social media platform is flooded with AI, they are all
celebrating it. I guess I have to focus on the teaching, drawing with
kids, real world stuff because social media depresses me.
Except the tapas forum
It's weird that AI bros are treating the Miyazaki AI art as a game changer.
I am going to be honest, I feel like the human designs in Miyazaki films are the least interesting designs in his films. Similar with the AI Pixar art, I never really liked the human designs for Pixar films. I feel like when it comes to the creativity and imagination of a Miyazaki or Pixar film, it's everything else that's not just a generic design.
