Story telling. It is the most important for me.

For me it´s the opposite of what @lomcia wrote.
Visuals are the main thing for me, followed by interesting characters
and humour. I want comics where the artist put a lot of effort into
beautifully drawn characters and beautiful colors.
My favourite books are painted in oil, tempera and water colors
and every panel seems like a masterpiece.

The nostalgia factor for me. I read comics instead of actual books when I was little because I had a hard time reading.

This also applies to manga as well.

It’s also good for research when writing my own stories.

When you say 'books' I think of traditional printed books. Comics, graphic novels, and 'funnies' collections. Something about holding a book and having that tactile experience is nostalgic for me, cause I used to read funnies as a kid of the 90s. Also, I love humor and story-telling, visuals are always on the back-burner.
Never was very picky about genre or had personal preferences. I'll read just about anything put in front of me, lol!

I like how surreal it can get.

Imaginary creatures and places. As well as breaking the laws of space and time. Sometimes to the point of the bizarre, like breaking the fourth wall or logic that only makes sense as a comic.

As a creator, I like how emotive I can draw the characters.

My favorite thing tends to be humor. I love silly comics when it comes to more serious stories, I like feeling a sense of raw emotion from each character.

I like engaging worlds & characters, comedy and clever wordplay. I certainly appreciate good art, but it is not a prerequisite for me to enjoy a comic. For example, I have long been a fan of the newspaper comic "Overboard", but the art is truly terrible. It always has been, and the artist has made no efforts to improve. He draws things as though he's never actually seen what those things look like. But I forgive the poor art because the comics themselves are often heartwarming, especially where animals are involved.

The art! I love seeing new art styles and how they're used to enhance the story. Everything from style to expressions and the way pages are arranged is fun to examine.
