How to you get your comic ideas?

im typically inspired by a song or collection of songs together that form the skeleton of a plotline, which i fill out with just... tonnes of daydreaming.

Although I do get ideas from most things (especially when I should be doing something else) by far i get most of my ideas reading history! And not just for historical stories (which I mean, I do do a lot of but anyway), but just as inspiration for anything, from costumes to folk legends to culture to relationships and "heroic" figures, or even social structure, manipulation and government administration if you're world building something. There are just so many unknown stories that can set your imagination rolling, so many little "human" moments that feel more genuine than anything I can think up and just? history is basically already a story so long as you can use your imagination and immerse yourself.

Artist can only write from personal experience, and their inspiration comes form that personal point, which makes sense how most people that lean to the artistic side tends to be very observant.

So basically if you're struggling to get ideas, do stuff, as many as you can. Experience stuff and draw from those.

Generally I get my ideas from things that actually happened in real life. Obviously I exaggerate reactions and interactions, but the real incident gives a nice foundation for it. I always thought unfortunate happenings pave way for great comedic stories (and it's also a great way to make light of it).

My life is sort of boring so I day dream A LOT. I usually base things off of what I am into at the moment. I pull inspiration from cartoons and books (usually books from my childhood). And there is some anime inspiration but it's mostly Naruto, Akira Toriyama or Astroboy....I don't think I ever pulled from anything more recent. I also feel like my comic looks sort of Peanuts like...but I think that is a bit unintentional.

I guess I don't get ideas from some"where." I get a passion for something that I can't fully experience unless I write it out. That will be influenced by media and things that I'm taking in at the time, so there's that.

Holy MOLY this is just like me! All I do is take bits and pieces from all of the media I consume.

Mostly, I just keep my ears open. If I overhear people talking, I might get an idea. If I overhear the voices in my own head, I'll DEFINITELY get an idea (but sometimes it's best not to go through with those ideas).

I get ideas from everywhere, mostly from listening to instrumental music.
But for my current comic, it actually started as a journal and went off course and turned into something else. I think probably because my life was pretty boring and writing myself into some kind of fantasy world would be cooler and then the whole thing basis of the comic was born. It's not like the original draft.... very very different. But yeah, it came from me realizing my life is boring. lol

This is the advice I give to everybody. Just take other ideas and twist them around or mash them together with other ideas until you have something that seems either cool or original.

I listen to soundtracks from movies or video games for the most part. Or sometimes I'll watch a sitcom or a funny movie.

My brain is a perpetual information sponge and incessant idea tumbler - I'm always feeding new nuggets in and bashing the existing hoard into gems (hopefully). I only have one comic going right now - but I've got scripts filed six issues in advance, a long game planned for The Beard and I'm constantly chipping away at pitch documents, sample scripts and world building for a plethora of other projects I hope to find collaborators for in the near future.

I get ideas all the time. But figuring out if they're good enough... well, my comic is centred around being a stay-at-home-parent, so it has to fit the strip. But other than that, I've tested some of the ideas on Facebook. If a lot of my followers/friends like it, and it still seems funny to me later on, I put it on a list to tidy up and work into a comic later.
