Yeah, people tell stories every day. All the time. A really good story though, takes skills that are developed over a long time. For example, myself personally I consider pretty decent at storytelling by this point. Not great, by any means, but I've gotten good feedback from people on stories I've done in the past, so I like to think I'm decent. Three years ago, though, my stories were utter garbage. I'm talking convoluted plotlines, mary sue characters, and even a...shudder....self-insert. Were they still stories? Absolutely. Were they good? Not by a longshot.
I once came upon a thread here where someone made the claim that nobody needed the people asking for artists with stories to tell because anybody who is good at art is good at storytelling. While in some cases this is true, there are many fantastic artists on this website with fantastic stories of their own, far too many to name, there are also a ton of stories with amazing art and stories that just....fall short.
Storytelling is an art-form, and like any art, requires practice, knowledge, and sometimes just a little spark of creativity.
