The limit itself is supposed to be temporary (says so right in Elon's announcement post), so I'm not terribly worried about that. I'm more concerned about the fact that it appears to be an ill-planned bandaid fix for a different problem, which is pretty standard Twitter business as of late, lol.

"Advertisers have been leaving in droves, how do we stop this?"

"I know! Let's force people to use the site less so that advertisers get fewer views every day!"

"...that just might work!"

I’m gonna be like one of those people who have never watched Game of Thrones and make sure people know about it:

I’ve never had a Twitter account. Sometimes I will see a twit or tweet or whatever they’re called, but I’ve never used the app or joined. I just never saw the allure. Ever since the chief twit Musk took it over I feel vindicated.

I’ve never used Instagram or TikTok either. I do use Facebook, and I find that distracting enough.

I left the site months ago, I can't believe people are still trying to bare with the app after all the horrible changes. Even when people send links to tweets, the site is so broken and laggy to even read a few hundred characters. I don't think there is anyway to save Twitter, just shut it down.

I noticed I gone back to Facebook. I joined some niche groups and spend my time filtering the site to only see what I want. No more dumb drama. No more stupid politics in the trending tab. It's so refreshing.

I don't know what is going to happen with the future of social media. But I also don't care. Brah, we all need to touch grass.

I'm not going to repeat what others have said about 600 tweets being a really small number, but it seems that this "rate limite" thing is actually a cover up.

Basically he's been trying to make it mandatory to have an account to view twitter and that function was put up just hours before the tweet about rate limiting...

Thing is, the blocking non logged in users from seeing tweets thing is horribly coded. Every time a user tries to look at any tweet from a browser it bugs out and sends ten of page requests per second to try and display the page but obviously the "if user not logged in deny service" stops it. In other words: twitter is DDOSing itself constantly on a massive scale, DDOS being the most basic form hackers use to crash websites.

I predict that he's going to keep going with the "rate limite" until the signed out user bug is fixed, and then he'll Come back with something like "After listening to user feedback we've rolled back the feature"... The fact that it says "temporairy" also leads me to believe that.

Looks like Musk hit his limit himself

Do reply tweets count? Even with a verified account, you could not read through the 60k replies.

If the issue is bots driving up the view count on posts, why not just remove view count. People learned more views is better for the algorithm, so why not just remove that feature and go back to boosting posts based off likes and engagement. Honestly, it would make more sense to set a like limit instead of a view limit.

I saw someone say that these changes only hurt users. People who use bots will just make more bots.

never had, about anything he's been involved in, twitter is just an example of what happens when you don't have people delegated to just distracting him so that he doesn't actually get involved and let those who know what they're doing do their job

I tend to still look at Twitter, I am rying to get off it completely. It has been downhill since Musk bought it.

19 days later

I always knew we're in a CLAMP manga and the end of the world is nigh

Imagine spending 23 years obsessing over this stupid domain name

Why remove the culturally impactful name of the site only to replace it with some outdated dot com era one?

oh I agree.Engagement also has been less and less on Twitter.

Definitely not a fan of the X thing right now.

Everyone I know is jumping ship to blue sky. Can someone spare an invite code for us peasant?

The website is x.com

omg

he really is an alien

We refused to listen to the warnings

X.com is really a lame name. Lol Elon Musk used to be like a real life Tony Stark for me but as I got older I realized he’s just a big baby that plays with toy rockets. Weeeee.

Yes I held him in that regard because I was living under a rock. 🥲

I honestly never had the desire to use Twitter or any social media at all even Instagram I was hesitant about it. I prefer things like Blogs, Forums and things like that. Call me old fashioned but it’s what I prefer.

I do like Discord though so I’m a big hypocrite. :sob:
